Leave for Teachers on Loan
A teacher, who makes a written request for a leave of absence in order to become a “teacher on
loan” to the Department of Public Instruction, may be approved for one (1) year. In order to be
entitled to a leave of absence to be a “teacher on loan”, the teacher must submit a timely, written
leave request to the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources. Requests will be reviewed
on a case-by-case basis and must include justification for the leave as well as explanation of how
the leave will benefit the school system. In order to be eligible for leave to be a teacher on loan,
the teacher must have already achieved career status, and been employed by the school system
for five (5) consecutive years. Requests for an extension of a leave must be submitted by May 15
in writing and will only be approved if determined to be in the best interests of the school
system.
