• Relationship initiation involves behaviours such as:
– Ask person out on a date
– Telephone or send them letters
– Wait for them outside work or
– Make other attempts to initiate social contact
• Subtle distinction between appropriate and inappropriate
behaviours
• If attention is unwanted persistence is typically described as
harassment or stalking
