PRESS RELEASE
January 2008
Cip celebrating its 21 st birthday!
One of the Urdd’s most popular magazines will travel all over Wales and visit over fifteen
different primary schools in a period of four weeks during January.
Cip (a Welsh language monthly magazine for 7-11 year olds) celebrates its twenty first
birthday this year, therefore to note this special occasion, staff working on the magazine
will travel to four different counties in order to hold workshops and entertain the children.
The journey will start with a lively party to launch the celebrations at Llanfairpwll Primary
School, Anglesey at 10.30am on 17 January. At Llanfairpwll, eighty children will join in the
celebrations along with Mistar Urdd as well as a few of the Rownd a Rownd cast.
During the morning, the children from years 3 a 4 will learn a bit about Cip's history. They
will also get a chance to sign a big birthday card and some of the Rownd a Rownd cast will
join Mistar Urdd in singing happy birthday and cutting the cake.
Says Efa Gruffudd Jones, Urdd Gobaith Cymru’s Chief Executive;
‘‘It promises to be a very successful celebration and I sincerely hope that the children will
thoroughly enjoy the wokshops and the party. It’s truly great to see the magazines growing
from strength to strength and most of all, reaching its audience - children all over Wales.’’
Following the morning at Llanfairpwll, several other workshops will be held at Corn Hir,
Amlwch and Y Graig, some of Anglesey’s other primary schools. The following week, the
visits will continue in Ceredigion, before visiting schools in the Gwent region at the end of
January. The visits will draw to a close in Conwy County on 8 February.
