ARTICLE I - NAME<br />

<strong>Miami</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Sample</strong> <strong>Constitution</strong><br />

<strong>Name</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Organization</strong><br />

The name <strong>of</strong> this organization shall be the _____________________________________ <strong>of</strong> <strong>Miami</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong>.<br />

ARTICLE II – PURPOSE<br />

The purpose <strong>of</strong> the club shall be (a) to foster a wide student interest and participation in activities by<br />

providing leadership, programs,and service, and (b) to assist students in developing skills and leadership.<br />

ARTICLE III – MEMBERSHIP<br />

Section 1: Any student regularly enrolled in <strong>Miami</strong> <strong>University</strong> may become a member <strong>of</strong> the<br />

_____________ club with voting and <strong>of</strong>fice-holding privileges. The standards for qualification and the<br />

amount <strong>of</strong> dues to be paid shall be determined by the club.<br />

Section 2: Dues, having been decided on by the club as $_____ per semester, shall be paid by members<br />

only.<br />

ARTICLE IV – EXECUTIVE OFFICERS<br />

The executive <strong>of</strong>ficers <strong>of</strong> the ______________ shall be as follows: President, Vice-President, Secretary, &<br />

Treasurer. The aforementioned <strong>of</strong>ficers shall constitute the Leadership Team.<br />

ARTICLE V – DUTIES OF THE LEADERSHIP TEAM<br />

President: To preside at Leadership Team membership meetings: appoint special committees with the<br />

approval <strong>of</strong> the Leadership Team: present an annual report: perform other such duties as may be required by<br />

the By-Laws or resolutions <strong>of</strong> the Leadership Team.<br />

Vice-President: To preside in President’s absence and perform other such duties as may be required by the<br />

By-Laws or resolutions <strong>of</strong> the Leadership Team. Plan and organize publicity for activities and special events.<br />

Secretary: To attend all general correspondence <strong>of</strong> the organization and to keep the minutes <strong>of</strong> all<br />

Leadership Team and membership meetings and to preserve the records <strong>of</strong> the organizations. He will also<br />

perform other such duties as may be required by the By-Laws or resolutions <strong>of</strong> the Leadership Team.<br />

Treasurer: Supervise the financial administration <strong>of</strong> all revenue periodically to the Leadership Team and<br />

membership on the financial condition <strong>of</strong> the organization, and perform other such duties as may be required<br />

by the By-Laws or resolutions <strong>of</strong> the Leadership Team.<br />

ARTICLE VI – ELECTIONS<br />

1. Election <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficers shall take place annually prior to Spring Break.<br />

2. The Leadership Team shall appoint a nominating committee consisting <strong>of</strong> students, preferably older<br />

members selected from the membership; and the outgoing President, ex-<strong>of</strong>ficio, shall serve as President <strong>of</strong><br />

the Committee. He may also serve again if elected.


3. Any student member is eligible for nomination as an <strong>of</strong>ficer <strong>of</strong> the Leadership Team who; (a) meets the<br />

college’s eligibility for student <strong>of</strong>fice holding which consists <strong>of</strong> a 2.5 average; and (b) fulfills the qualification<br />

as set up by the Leadership Team.<br />

4. The time from selection through the end <strong>of</strong> the semester will be used as a period <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficer training and<br />

transition.<br />

ARTICLE VII – Hazing/Non-Discrimination<br />

1. ______________ and all members there<strong>of</strong> pledge to take a stand against Hazing in this organization, and<br />

will report hazing to the proper authorities.<br />

2. ______________ will not discriminate against members for any reason, including but not limited to<br />

gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, social-economic status, nationality, or any other reason.<br />

ARTICLE VIII – Expulsion <strong>of</strong> Members<br />

Any member may be removed from the organization with just cause. For this to occur a complaint must be<br />

brought to the Leadership Team by any member/individual. A hearing will be held where cases can be pled.<br />

After this, a 67% vote will remove a member from the organization.<br />

ARTICLE XI – AMENDMENTS<br />

Amendments to this <strong>Constitution</strong> may be proposed to the voting membership by majority vote <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Leadership Team or by petition signed by 1/10 <strong>of</strong> the voting membership. Amendments shall be declared<br />

adopted which are presented at 2 general meetings and receive a majority favorable vote at both meetings by<br />

the voting member present.<br />

ARTICLE X – BY-LAWS<br />

By-Laws, not inconsistent with this constitution, may be adopted or amended by 2/3 vote <strong>of</strong> the regular<br />

members present at any regular or special meetings, providing the By-Laws are submitted in writing at least<br />

one week previously at either a regular or special meeting <strong>of</strong> the general membership
