EXECUTIVE SUMMARY<br />
• There is <strong>on</strong>e greyhound track <strong>in</strong> <strong>Arkansas</strong>,<br />
Southland <strong>Greyhound</strong> Park <strong>in</strong> West Memphis<br />
• From January 2008 through June 8 2012,<br />
there were 476 reported <strong>in</strong>juries susta<strong>in</strong>ed by<br />
greyhounds rac<strong>in</strong>g at Southland <strong>Greyhound</strong><br />
Park 1<br />
• The most comm<strong>on</strong>ly reported <strong>in</strong>jury was a<br />
broken leg. 2 Other comm<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong>juries were<br />
tears, lacerati<strong>on</strong>s, and other broken b<strong>on</strong>es 3<br />
• Thirty-two greyhounds either died or were<br />
euthanized 4<br />
• There were several <strong>in</strong>stances of races<br />
c<strong>on</strong>ducted <strong>on</strong> very hot days, which <strong>in</strong> some<br />
cases led to greyhounds suffer<strong>in</strong>g from heat exhausti<strong>on</strong> 5<br />
