With effect from 5 December 2010, offshore (in country) skills assessments will become available to applicants in a number of additional source countries, and trade occupations. In addition, Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) has now approved two Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), VETASSESS and Victoria University to conduct skills assessments offshore. As Australian RTOs, these providers are subject to the strict quality and regulatory provisions of the Australian Quality Training Framework. Additionally, as with previous arrangements, the service levels, quality and integrity of offshore services will be closely monitored by TRA. The changes also provide prospective applicants with access to TradeSET, an online self-evaluation tool, free of charge to assist prospective applicants to: select the correct Australian occupation understand the requirements of an Australian Qualification; and prepare for formal skills assessment. The assessments, will continue to provide applicants with access to Australian qualifications, gap training, occupational licensing, and ultimately a pathway to Australian employment.
