2. Proof of Age – Birth Certificate
3. Placement Criteria, kindergarten:
1. 5 years old by September 1
2. Gesell Test of School Readiness
• Parental Input
4. Placement Criteria, Grade 1:
1. 6 years old by September 1
2. Gesell Test of School Readiness
entering school for the first time must be immunized
as follows:
1. 2 varivax immunizations or history of the
disease (chicken pox)
2. 2 doses of Measles & Mumps vaccine
(usually given as MMR). 1 dose of rubella
(usually given as MMR).
3. 3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine
Health Services
Each school has a health room and a full time
nurse. The school nurse conducts vision and
hearing screenings at prescribed intervals. In
certain grades, scoliosis and tuberculosis tests
are given. Emergency cards are kept in the
health room for each student.
State law requires that a complete physical
exam be completed upon entrance into
school and in grades 6 and 11. Dental exams
are required in kindergarten and in grades 3
and 7. Parents are encouraged to take their
children to their family physician or dentist.
Forms are provided by the district. A school
doctor and dentist are available for consultation
and examinations. Prescribed medicines
are dispensed with a physician’s direction and
parental consent.
All students participating in competitive sports
must pass physical examinations given by the
family physician before the beginning of each
sport’s season.
New Admissions
4. 4 doses of diphtheria and tetanus –
1 dose must be after 4th birthday.
5. 3 doses of polio
Additional required immunizations for all
students entering 7th grade:
1. Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) if more
than 5 years since last tetanus shot
2. Meningococcal Vaccine (MCV)
These requirements allow for medical reasons and
religious beliefs and you may file an exemption from
these immunizations with your school nurse. This
exemption must be filed in writing before the first day
of school for the 2011-2012 school year. If your child
is exempt he/she may be removed from school during
an outbreak.
If your child does not have the required vaccinations or
an exemption on file they will be excluded from school
at the beginning of the school year until they receive
the first dose of each vaccine and then you will have
8 months to complete the series, if more than one shot
is required. If you have any questions feel free to
contact your school nurse.
Guidance Department
215-938-0114
The Guidance Department seeks to assist each child in achieving his
or her potential. Individual counseling is available at all levels. Group
guidance sessions are conducted in such areas as decision making,
peer relations, course selection and college admissions. A districtwide
testing program is administered by the department and provides
a continuous record of each child’s progress through 12 years of
schooling in comparison with the local and national norms. These
assessments assist teachers and counselors in evaluating student
strengths and weaknesses and assist with course selection and long
range educational and career planning.
Vocational Technical Education
Eastern Center for Arts and Technology offers courses for students in
grades 11 and 12 as part of the high school program. Students spend
mornings at the vocational school and afternoons at the high school
to fulfill academic requirements.
F There is a written Code of Conduct that provides
a framework for the orderly operation of schools.
appropriate .materials are given to the lower grades.
F The use of tobacco, alcohol and other controlled
substances are prohibited throughout the district.
