unique program that is free
to seniors, age 55+, in the
Kamloops area. The Good
Morning Program provides a
daily telephone call, from
Monday to Friday, to registered
clients on the program.
The program began in
1997, when it was transferred
from Thompson
Valley Family Services.
Since then, the program has
grown in numbers, with both
clients and volunteers. The
Good Morning Program is
made possible through the
dedication of our friendly,
cheerful volunteers! Just
recently, a tea was held in
honor of the program’s
clients and volunteers. It was
a wonderful opportunity for
everyone to meet each other,
and was enjoyed by all who
attended.
Our Good Morning
Program is ideal for seniors,
those recovering from hospitalization,
or any senior living
alone who would like a
friendly call each day. Good
Morning Program volunteers
call our registered
clients between 9 and 11
a.m. Monday through
Heritage
Statue to be
unveiled on
Canada Day
BY LISA HENDERSON
The Overlanders, a lifesized
bronze sculpture representing
a 19th century
European pioneer family on a
raft in the Thompson River,
will be officially unveiled in
front of City Hall on July 1 at
12:30 p.m.
Kamloops’ sculptors,
Garry Davies and Terry
Nordlander, designed the
sculpture to represent both the
founding spirit of the City of
Kamloops and the idea of
family and community. The
City of Kamloops commissioned
the sculpture from the
artists in 2002.
The wind-swept figures of
a man, woman and child cast
in bronze, stand on a log raft
base cast in concrete. The statue
will have a plaque that
explains the role of the
Overlanders in the development
of the city.
The Kamloops Branch
of the BCSPCA needs
your help!
The Kamloops Branch of
the BCSPCA is calling upon
the community in an effort to
find temporary care for
orphaned and abandoned
animals. Due to an overwhelming
number of animals
at the shelter, volunteers are
currently needed to find caring
homes.
“With the recent crack
down on interior puppy
mills, we are already full and
every spring we receive
numerous homeless kittens,
puppies and other animals,”
says Foster Coordinator
Audrey Hilliard. “When the
shelter is full or when animals
are injured , sick or too
young for adoption, foster
parents provide a safe, healing
environment until an
adoption opportunity exists.”
Shelter Director, Jennifer
Gore says, “Its situation critical.
We need foster parents
for our dogs, we simply have
no more room.”
