Kamloops celebrates
Canada’s birthday on July 1
in style. Riverside Park will
once again be overflowing
with people, food, entertainment,
displays and fun.
Canada Day Folkfest
kicks off at Riverside Park
with a pancake breakfast
from 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Served up by the
Brocklehurst Lions Club, the
breakfast costs $4.
Opening ceremonies on
the Canada Day stage features
local dignitaries
between 11:00 a.m. and
12:00 p.m. and the afternoon
showcase starts at 12:30
p.m., providing non-stop
entertainment until 6:00 p.m.
Evening entertainment on
the stage begins at 7:30 p.m.
and goes until 10:00 p.m.
The day ends with fireworks
around 10:30 p.m.

Seniors enjoying walk in Riverside Park
cultural displays, operated
by members of the
Kamloops Multi-Cultural
Society, are open between
11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Their delightful offerings
complement the cultural
entertainment on the Canada
Day stage. Thirsty celebrants
can also visit the beer
garden from 1:00 p.m. to
6:00 p.m.
Children’s activities and
commercial service displays
are set up outside Heritage
House from 10:00 a.m. to
6:00 p.m. and martial arts
demonstrations take place
there between 1:00 p.m. and
4:00 p.m.
Art in the Park, organized
by the Community Arts
Council, features all kinds of
artistic demonstrations and
locally crafted items for sale.
It is open from 9:00 a.m. to
6:00 p.m. in the park behind
Cunliffe House. A Carvin’
Kamloops display is again
planned for the tennis courts.
There is no admission
charge for Canada Day celebrations
but attendees are
reminded that there is no
public parking available at
the park on Canada Day. Pay
parking lots are nearby and
city buses run to the park on
the July 1 holiday.
Riverside Park is accessible
to everyone. Seating is at
a premium during the festivities
so portable chairs or
blankets are a good idea if
you plan on spending several
hours there.

Stride Inside has been
organized and run in conjunction
with the Kamloops
Y. In the winter months the
walks take place in the
Aberdeen Mall and in the
summer at Riverside Park
and McArthur island.
This is an ideal way for
seniors to get out three
times a week for a walk,
fresh air and to have fun and
laughter. The walk days are
Monday, Wednesday and
Friday starting at 8:30 am.
To join just show up at
any one of the walks as listed
in schedule.
