SENIOR CONNECTOR
Grace Leitch gives thanks to young A.G. employee
Grace Leitch, who lives
at Desert Gardens had an
experience the other day
that she wants to share with
Senior Connector readers.
She went shopping at
Uptown AG Foods and upon
returning home discovered
that she had lost $20.00. She
called the manager, Larry
Bertoncini, who quickly
stated that a young employee
had turned in $20.00, but
did now know who had lost
it. The money was returned
immediately to Grace.
Grace is grateful to this
young person for his honesty
and feels that this “random
act of kindness”
restores, once again, her
trust in people, young and
old.
BY PEGGIE WARD
Many of us lost a friend
this past week. Murray Leslie
passed away on May 20th. He
was a quite gentle man who
loved to help people. He was
a good friend and he will be
missed.
The many smiling faces of the models who took part in the Fashion Show held during the Strawberry Tea.
Auxiliary and Desert Gardens News
you’ve done it again! The
Fashion Show and Strawberry
much to the folks who attended.
Thank you also to the
models who did a great job.
The models were: Bob Pick,
Jack Ready, Blake Paranteau,
Selena Sopel, Connie
Hamerston, Verna Sarodney,
Buddy Schwitzer, Florence
Blancher, Lucette Weil and
Louise Kennedy. The attractive
fashions were supplied by
the Bay.
Our Thanks to Helena’s
Beauty Salon, Kamloops
Florist, AG Foods and the Bay
for donating door prizes.
These were won by Gudrun
Christianson, Mearl
McDonnell, Edna Heddle ,
Winnie Kaillough and yours
truly.
It was so nice to see the
group of ladies from
Pinegrove Lodge and it was
especially nice that Winnie
Kaillough (resident at
Pinegrove) won the gift basket
from the Bay. We hope
that the folks will come visit
us again.
Get well wishes to Shirley
Mark. Hope your recouperation
is coming along nicely.
Will look forward to seeing
you when you are able to get
around again.
Today, May 28 , we celebrated
Hilda Rasich’s 88th
Birthday. Hope you had a
good day Hilda.
As I told you last month ,
my grandson turned 16 on
May 6th. On Mother’s Day he
drove me home after dinner (
with his dad at his side). Darn
kids want to grow up too fast.
Some of the Lady residents
have planted the
planters in front of Desert
Gardens. I’m sure that they
will be as lovely as they have
been in other years.
Our last Flea Market of the
season was held on May
24th.There won’t be another
until sometime in the fall.
The turnout for the Variety
Show was very poor, however
Louise will try again on
Friday June 13th. The program
will feature some Celtic
Dancers and the “Kitchen
Band”. Dinner at 5:30, Show
at 7pm.
Giant Crib Tournament, to
be held Sunday afternoon
June 8th. That same afternoon,
The Thompson Valley
Seniors will hold a dance,
music by the Evergreen
Drifters. (Something for
everyone).
A Country Hoedown
Dance will be held on Friday
evening June 27th.Music by
“Wally and the Wallbangers”.
Please keep your calenders
so that you know what’s on at
the Centre for the month of
June.
Thank you so much to
those who have supported us
through the Winter and
Spring, and we ask for your
continued support.
Attendance at our
Saturday Breakfast is down a
little. It’s definitely not a
“Pancake Breakfast” anymore.
You can have eggs,
bacon, hashbrowns and toast.
Pretty much anything you
could ask for. Please drop in
and see us.
Do have a nice summer.
Enjoy your gardens and keep
smiling.
Chautauqua
is back in town!
“Folk Of Note” brings
Chautauqua back to town, for
their 11th annual Spring production.
The 50 voice choir is
reprising an old fashioned
Chautauqua,
(pronounced sha-talk-was)
Chautauqua were rustic
variety shows that toured the
country side in the early 20th
century, to bring arts, culture,
education and religion to
small towns.
