CAPRICORN REGION Hello from Capricorn Can you believe we are already five months into this year Typically in our region there has been a great deal happening to update you on - so here‟s a snap shot for this month……….. WINNABURRA & THE OFFENDER REINTEGRATION PROGRAM The Teams in Winna Burra & the Offender Reintegration Support Programs have also been busy as they endeavour to provide our clients with services to best meet their needs. Foster, Kinship and Specialist Care Programs Rockhampton Foster, Kinship and Specialist Care Programs have been celebrating more birthdays this month with Kathy having a significant birthday and like Wendy last month, came in to see her office had been transformed into a birthday wonderland. Congratulations to Irmi on completing her Diploma of Child, Youth and Family Intervention. We are very proud of Irmi. Irmi came into the program about five years ago with limited theory of human services but plenty of compassion for children, young people and families with added personal knowledge of the Foster Care system having been a carer for many years previously. Irmi has used that compassion to drive her to learn and understand the complexities of this work. As English is her second language Irmi had this additional challenge to overcome, however has managed to do this as well. For all the long hours and hair pulling and remembering to „breathe‟, Irmi has done it. Well Done Irmi. Irmi is off on a very well deserved holiday to Switzerland next week so have a wonderful time our friend but remember to come back. For the rest of the team, we will continue to prepare for our final audit later in the month of June. This will give us the opportunity to refine our knowledge, skills and documentation of Specialist Care processes and Incident reporting. The team‟s commitment and positive approach to this process has been evident. We wish them all the best for their upcoming audit. 30
CAPRICORN REGION DARREN JOINS COMMUNITY HOUSING Darren Mann commenced his position as Community Housing Officer with the Community Housing team on the 23 rd May. He brings with him wonderful experience in supporting and connecting with those experiencing homelessness. Darren‟s previous position as an outreach worker saw him working closely with homeless people within the local community. He also maintains links with other organisations and the general community that will be a benefit to Anglicare. Please join with us in welcoming Darren to the Community Housing Team. The Community Housing Team continues to manage the additional 23 properties that were handed over in April, which made a total of 213 properties that the team manage. There are another 18 properties that are expected to come on line over the next couple of weeks making a total of 231. Training is on the agenda with staff members attending Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training and up skilling in Console software applications. Console Consultant Aaron conducted the training which was driven by the requirements of the team member‟s roles, record keeping, systems and reporting needs. Andy has applied to do the Certificate IV in Social Housing. MEMORABLE MOMENTS There have been some celebrations within the program for young people celebrating birthdays! Staff supported them with family and friends, one at the Rock Pool and another at Victoria Park Two young people have also begun interschool sports with staff going along to help support and barrack for the teams. A great achievement for one, when he kicked a goal for his team, with his team mates all celebrating with him. This proved momentous for him as the building of social skills and “belonging” is one of his goals. Support worker Tannia, was overwhelmed with pride at witnessing this memorable moment. The program is moving into continuous improvement and is working closely with Evolve to focus on Ethics in <strong>Residential</strong> Care in the coming months. 31
