WESTERN REGION BAREFOOT IN THE PARK UNDER 8‟S CELEBRATIONS UNDER 8’S DAY If you came down to the park today You were in for a big surprise! If you went down to the park today, We hope you went in disguise, For every child that ever there was, Was gathered there for certain, because Today’s the day that we celebrate Under 8’s Day! The Emerald Under 8‟s Day, “Barefoot In The Park” was a huge success! Children and their parents came along for two hours of fun, laughter and friendship, as we celebrated the joys of early childhood. Emerald‟s Early Childhood Educators worked together to organise fun events for children and their parents, including dancing, painting, musical instruments, face painting, parachute games, sand and water play, obstacle courses, threading and collage. We were all very excited to have visits from the Police, Ambulance and Fire Brigade as well – their sirens were very loud and impressive! Central Highlands Family Day Care was well represented, with Meagan, Kay & Amber offering pasta threading and collage – as you can see, both activities were a huge hit! Our Care Providers were also in attendance, with all children and carers saying that they had a marvellous time. 24
WESTERN REGION DEVELOPING PARTNERSHIPS Susan Thornhill, our Regional Manager, was also away during the last week of May. She attended the Queensland Affordable Housing Consortium meeting in Brisbane as part of the National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS). The mission of the Queensland Affordable Housing Consortium is to meet the need for affordable housing by bringing together developers, investors and property managers to deliver new rental housing under the Commonwealth‟s National Rental Affordability Scheme. The Government has established 10 year Tax Incentives through the NRAS Scheme to support the delivery of 50,000 new rental homes which will be well located, meet local demands and market standards and are affordable and attractive to both tenants and investors. WINTON CONTINUES TO PROVIDE LIMITED SERVICES The Winton Office is open and operating on limited hours as Carol is still away on sick leave. Kylie Britton is filling in from 9.30 and 11.30am daily (where possible), however, anyone needing to contact the Winton Office outside these hours is asked to direct their enquiries to the Longreach Office. We would like to wish Carol a safe recovery and look forward to seeing her at work again soon. CHILD SAFETY AND COURT MATTERS On the 26 th of May, Megan and Amy attended the Child Safety Court Process Training in Longreach. The trained was hosted by Child Safety Emerald and educated the participants on Legislative Framework surrounding child safety and court matters, affidavit writing and principals for good affidavit writing and how to be a witness. 25
