WESTERN REGION About the Shockwave Festival... Shockwave is a festival designed for, by nd with young people and the wider community of Central West QLD to celebrate xchange, learn about creative arts and for young People to experience the freedom of artistic expression. 2011 will be the third annual Shockwave Festival to be held at the Memorial Hall & Skate Park, Blackall. With over 600 people involved in the 2010 festival it is the only event of this scale for young people in the Central West. Previously the festival has included young people showcasing their talents through music, dance, theatre, photography, visual arts, film and multimedia over two performance areas. Other activities and workshops include kate deck painting, costumed video logging, music production, tie dying, temporary tattooing, lantern making, drama activities, body percussion, circus and acro-balance, skate demos and lessons and laser skirmish. The idea for Shockwave was conceived by young people during the delivery of the 2008 Creative Pathways program. Shockwave is an all ages event and is proudly drug and alcohol free. 22

With Shockwave just around the corner, youth workers across the region are working closely together to help organise the event. Shockwave is a festival designed by, for and with young people and the wider community of the Central West to celebrate, exchange and learn about creative arts and as an opportunity for young people‟s artistic expression. The Youth Symposium is also coming up in mid July and we will have more information about that event in the next edition so keep posted! 23
