SOUTHERN REGION PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE IN HOUSING TENANCY MANAGEMENT At the start of this year our Housing Team comprised of one full time Housing Coordinator, Val Radloff and one Housing Administrator, Carol Lattimer (30 hrs a week). In mid January Carol‟s role became full time to support our 60 tenants with their administrative needs. And what a marvellous job Carol does, not only with administration but also with Responsive and Planned Property Maintenance. Early in March we welcomed Maree Stebbings to our Team as Tenant Liaison Officer (20 hrs a week). Maree‟s role is to offer one on one support to our tenants through education, information sharing, referrals and encouragement throughout their tenancy. The level of support offered varies because every one of our tenants is individual and unique and have different needs. The Liaison Officer role is new and we are still researching and developing the processes and service delivery framework. Maree has also undertaken Case Management training to gain skills which will help her develop positive relationships with our tenants. Maree is doing such a great job that we have increased her role to 30 hrs a week! During the next couple of months we will be putting the final touches to the Tenant Manager job description and will start to recruit someone to fill this role which will “complete” our Housing Team. Then we will look at moving our Team from our individual offices to one combined area at the Gladstone Centre so we can work closer, together and achieve the best possible lifestyle and housing outcomes for members of our community. Stay tuned for more updates about the growing Gladstone Housing Team! 12
SOUTHERN REGION REMEMBER THIS... MINING INDUSTRY HELPS OUT Recently the Foster, Kinship & Specialist Care program in Biloela received a sponsorship for $500.00 from Anglo American Metallurgical Coal Callide Mine and $250 from Anglo American Metallurgical Coal Dawson Mine. The F & K Team would like to thank both Callide Management and Dawson Management for providing us with these funds which will go towards purchasing a range of gift vouchers to thank our Foster Carers for their continued dedication and to celebrate their many silent achievements e.g. dinner or movie vouchers, contribution towards costs for a weekend away etc. It is anticipated that this token of appreciation will assist the program retain these carers and consequently, the number of quality placements available to children and young people will be maintained. Further, it is hoped that by demonstrating support for our local carers, more families will apply to become foster carers, as this role is crucial in ensuring that children and young people can remain in their own community. RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM FOUND A HOUSE As many of you are aware, the rental crisis in Gladstone has not been working in the favour of the Residential Program, with soaring rent, lack of suitable properties and battling to even get an application considered over the industry giants, at last we have finally done it! After several months of viewing, applying for and being declined on houses (47 in total) I am pleased, no I am ecstatic, to announce that the Residential Program now has a new residence for the young people from Church House to move into. The move began on Monday last week and three very excited young people have now moved in and settled into their new place. The big job is now ahead of the program to clean and repair the Church House in preparation for the old house to be handed back to the Anglican Church by the end of June. Builders and handymen have been organised, staff have been scheduled cleaning work and glaziers have been commissioned to get the Church House back to pristine condition. It is now full steam head for all involved! Huge thanks have to go to all the Residential program staff and senior workers for their efforts in the move so far. Keep up the good work team! Thank you to Kate Staff for submitting the 2011 Sponsorship Application Forms. 13
