Visitors and residents alike couldn’t
help but notice the “transformation” that
Brgy. Esperanza is experiencing now
and the person behind it is none other
than the brand new Brgy. Chairman
Reynaldo Gorres. Honorable Gorres
leads the barangay folks in making the
atmosphere not only a clean, beautiful
but also a healthy and progressive one.
Helping him also realize these endeavors
are the council members; Hon. Joselito
Dequinco Beatriz Alfonso, Nestor Sano,
Oscar Lopez, Ariel Lopez, Adriano
Lotarino Sr., Enriquita Leoberas, Nenith
Lucañas-SK Chairman, with Maria
Janice Boholst- Treasurer and Corazon
Magdadaro-Secretary.
Despite being a neophyte, public
service runs in his veins. Brgy Esperanza
is among the choices for the Barangay
with Best Sanitation Practices. This
Friday August 26 the evaluation team
headed by Dr. Nelita Navales visits the
place which Ang Ormocanon witnessed.
Hon. Gorres pledge that giving him
just a week’s time, all the residents here
will have their own toilet and obtain
a zero-no toilet household. “Usa ka
semana gikan karon zero na nga walay
kasilyas bisan kadtong tuas kinataasang
bukid ug tabok sa sapa” he said during
the short program that was held at the
barangay center. He also told Ang
Ormocanon that even children here
know the word “sanitation” in the real
sense that one can hardly find a piece of
candy wrapper thrown just anywhere.

Captain Rey Gorres proudly revealed his
motto that like a good soldier “we are
bound to comply before complaining”.
At first his existence in Brgy
Esperanza was just supposedly as his
get-away from the high profile and
busy life at the heart of Makati City and
Isabel, Leyte where his main business
and offices are stationed. He narrated
a bit of his desire was born of serving
the people in this particular part of the
110 barangays of Ormoc some 11 years
ago. “Natawo kining akong farm sa
miaging 11 na ka tuig nga murag mafeel
nako ang kalami sa akong kinabuhi ug
pamuyo labi na ug stress kog gamay
sa akong negosyo mao kini ang akong
dangpanan para lang mareleive ang
akong gibati. Matag bisita nako dinhi
nagsugod usab ang akong pagpakabana
mismo sa katilingban tungod kay makita
nako ang hulagway sa mga tawo ang
kapobrehon, ang kawad-on”.
Though the Chairman admits that
he may not be working as full timer
here but definitely he sees to it that the
people here especially those so called
less fortunate will be served. Many of
them here don’t have access to basic
needs, including medicines but now
that he was elected and chosen to lead
by an overwhelming votes last election
then these things should be prioritized.

also a responsibility in molding
the Christianity of his constituents
and let the community involve
in whatever religious activities.
It was learned that their church
is now beautiful after it was
renovated not to mention other
projects which he takes from his
pocket. To him this is “public
service” which he sees to it will
surely change the physical aspect
of Brgy Esperanza but as well
uplift the status of their lives.
