<strong>Cultural</strong> <strong>Identity</strong> <strong>Politics</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> (<strong>Post</strong>-)<strong>Transitional</strong> <strong>Societies</strong><br />
national <strong>the</strong>atre” (Skušek-Močnik, 1980: 26). As we tried to demonstrate <strong>in</strong> this paper,<br />
<strong>the</strong> concept of national <strong>the</strong>atre and <strong>the</strong> construction of cultural identity related to that<br />
concept, could have different ideological presuppositions: from <strong>the</strong> “nationaliz<strong>in</strong>g”<br />
of culture (Less<strong>in</strong>g’s option) to <strong>the</strong> “culturalization” of <strong>the</strong> nation (Schiller’s option).<br />
However, no matter which option prevails, <strong>the</strong> paradox of <strong>the</strong> national <strong>the</strong>atre rema<strong>in</strong>s<br />
active – and it holds true also for Slovenia and o<strong>the</strong>r newly established nation states of<br />
<strong>the</strong> former SFRY.<br />
