Healthy Lifestyles Program
The YMCA has developed the Healthy Lifestyles Program
in collaboration with Stanford Prevention Research
Center. For more than thirty years, Stanford has been
developing, testing and refining a Six-Step Method for
Behavioral Change.
The YMCA can help you find a balanced solution that
works for you. Healthy Lifestyles is a scientifically proven
program that uses the power of groups, along with oneon-one
coaching, to help you achieve your personal goals.
By integrating spirit, mind and body in a holistic approach
to well-being, we work toward a balanced, satisfying life,
rather than trying to achieve an “ideal” physical goal.
The program begins with a health and lifestyle assessment.
From there, you will have one-on-one time with a coach
and participate in weekly group sessions.
Throughout this 10-month process you will:
• Set short and long-term goals
• Identify barriers
• Undertake a new health and well-being routine
• Track your progress
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Emotional, social, and academic growth are the main focuses
of the Stonestown Family YMCA’s nine After School
Enrichment Programs, which provide care for youth from
the time school’s out until at least 6:00pm, supporting
families who work. We believe that all youth deserve a safe
space to be themselves and continue their learning from the
school day, and to explore creative means of self-expression
and leadership skills. Our programs allow more than 1,700
youth daily in the Sunset, OMI and West of Twin Peaks
neighborhoods to learn, grow and thrive!
Each of our nine after-school programs provide daily
homework support or tutoring, physical activities such as
team sports leagues, and a variety of enrichment activities,
such as Y-bike, planting a garden, sculpture art, and comic
book creation. Some of our programs are fully subsidized
and offered at no cost to families while others require a fee.
We raise funds to support the quality of our programs and
to provide scholarships to families in need.
We provide out of school time care for children and youth at
the following neighborhood community center and schools:
• IT Bookman Community Center
• Jose Ortega Elementary School
• Miraloma Elementary School
• Sheridan Elementary School
• Aptos Middle School
• Hoover Middle School
• Lawton Alternative School
• Lincoln High School
• Commodore Sloat Elementary School (before
school care is also available from 7:00 - 8:30am)
Our programs focus on youth development as a model.
We believe in empowering youth by providing opportunities
for young people to achieve their full potential. By providing
positive and engaging activities for youth, and fostering
healthy relationships with positive adult allies, young
people in our community can learn, grow and thrive –
every day. Positive engagement helps to prevent risky
behavior and encourages youth to make healthy choices,
keeping them safe.
TEEN LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS
Youth and Government - High School
The Youth and Government High School Leadership
Program is a statewide youth educational program
involving more than 2,300 high school students in
a 9 month hands-on experience. Since its inception,
the program has used a variety of activities to build,
encourage and strengthen life assets and character
traits that will help high school youth become involved,
responsible adults.
The tools used are high-quality experiential and
educational simulations based on California’s state
government. The program is very comprehensive and its
impact on participants is dramatic. The core purpose of
the highly-regarded program is exemplified in the motto
“Democracy Must Be Learned by Each Generation.”
The program begins in August 2013 when 2,300
young people and 250 volunteers meet throughout
the state as individual delegations to discuss issues
facing California. During a nine month period, the teen
delegates write bills, select governmental positions
to role-play, attend state-wide training conferences
and run for various elected offices. The program
reaches its peak at the State Capitol in Sacramento
with the convening of the five day Model Legislature
and Court. There, “real” government moves over and
the teen delegates take over, using the historic halls
and chambers of our State Capitol, Supreme Court and
Governor’s Office.
VOLUNTEERISM
Volunteers are the heart of the Stonestown Family
YMCA. For 60 years, they have dedicated themselves to
our programs and services. From fundraising efforts to
fitness classes, the Stonestown Family YMCA relies upon
volunteers to operate.
Today this legacy lives on. Teens, adults and seniors help
us in a myriad of ways! If you have a skill or passion to
share, or simply have some time to help, please let us
know. We are open to working with volunteers to find a
place for their interests. Current examples of volunteer
efforts include:
• Group Exercise Instructors
• Youth Sports Coaches
• After School and Preschool Volunteers
• Administrative Interns
• Board of Managers
• Annual Giving Campaign Volunteers
Each year, we invite members and participants to
be a part of something bigger, by volunteering for
our Annual Giving Campaign teams. Teams in each Y
department raise funds needed for after school, camp
and senior programs. Veteran campaigners help to train
newcomers - and we’re always looking for new volunteer
campaigners. Will you help us raise funds for the future
of our youth and Senior programs, by donating your
time For more information on how to get involved
with our Annual Giving Campaign, please contact Claire
DeLeon at CDeLeon@ymcasf.org.
FINANCIAL DEVELOPMENT
Your philanthropic contribution to the Stonestown
Family YMCA enables us to provide programs,
services and financial aid to families who cannot afford to
participate. Summer camp, after school programs
and services for older adults are central to our cause.
Many of us have a story about how the YMCA changed our
life. Help us create memories for the next generation by
supporting the Stonestown Family YMCA.
Annual Giving Campaign
At the Y, no child, family or adult is turned away due to
an inability to pay. We recognize that for communities to
succeed, everyone must be given the opportunity to be
healthy, confident, connected and secure. We can only make
that promise through the support of our donors to the Y’s
Annual Giving Campaign. Each year we work with passionate
volunteers to raise funds needed to make sure the Y’s
critical programs and services remain available to all people,
especially those most in need. Please support the Y by
making a donation today. Thank you for your consideration
in supporting the Y and our mission.
Heritage Club
If the Stonestown Family YMCA holds a special
meaning for you, consider joining our Heritage Club by
designating the Stonestown Family YMCA as a beneficiary
in your will or estate plans. Your gift can become a lasting
legacy for the Stonestown Family YMCA, benefiting future
generations of users.
In-Kind Contributions
Donate a good or service that can be auctioned or raffled
at one of our events or utilized in our programs.
Matching Gifts
Many employers will match contributions made by
employees to non-profit organizations. Ask your Human
Resources Department to find out if your generous gift to
the YMCA can be matched, sometimes up to three times
your gift!
In Memoriam and Celebration
Make your gift to commemorate a special event or loved
one. Your donation can remember a loved one who has
passed or a special occasion, while supporting our cause.
We will gratefully acknowledge your thoughtful donation
by notifying the person or family member you designate
(no gift amount is disclosed). Please be sure to indicate,
along with your gift, the name and address of the
• Lessons cannot be booked until a membership has been
purchased. If a membership expires, programs will be
forfeited.
• Full payment is required to reserve a space in the class.
• Pool rules must be followed at all times. Follow
directions given by lifeguards.
• Please arrive early to check in at the Membership
Services Desk. Lesson times will not be extended if you
arrive late. If you have not arrived after 15 minutes into
your scheduled lesson, your lesson will be forfeited.
• You must cancel your reserved space 2 weeks before a
program begins.
• There are no refunds or make-ups.
• Instructors reserve the right to move a participant to
a different level if the one in which the participant is
enrolled is inappropriate. If no appropriate level class is
available, participants will be issued a refund or credit.
• If necessary, the instructor may combine classes in
similar levels as long as the instructor : student ratio is
not exceeded.
• Prior to the start of a session, if there are 3 empty
spaces in a class, the class may be cancelled. If
convenient, participants in this class may be transferred
into another class of the same level at a
different time. If no class is available, a refund or credit
will be issued.
• Parents or guardians must remain in the designated
area of the observation deck.
