San Diego Woodturners Page 27 June 2013 Empty Bowls Each year potters, glass blowers and woodturners donate bowls to be part of a wonderful fundraiser to feed the hungry. We are all fortunate to have enough to eat every day and we sometimes forget that there are people in our own city who go hungry. TACO (Third Avenue Charitable Organization) is a local organization running the San Diego version of the national Empty Bowl initiative. At the event (in the spring) supporters pay $20 for a bowl of their choice and some soup. The soup is donated by a number of really great restaurants. (The bowls don’t have to be used to eat the soup). In 2012, 600 people attended and many bought more than one bowl. The event raised over $15,000 to help feed those in need. I would like to collect bowls all year so that we have a nice selection to donate. Please bring your donations to any meeting and I will keep them safe until it is time to pass them on for the event. Thanks for your generosity. Sally Ault NEWS FROM THE DVD LIBRARY From the DVD Library The library has added Jimmy Clewes “Turn It Up” DVD’s available for checkout.
