Research Association in San Diego, California. In June Hartley led a session on<br />

“Financial Benchmarking” at the Higher Education Management Institute <strong>of</strong> Vanderbilt<br />

University’s Peabody College.<br />

Eric Godin, manager <strong>of</strong> research projects, and Hartley co-authored “<strong>The</strong> Presidency<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Independent</strong> <strong>Colleges</strong> and Universities: Leadership at the Crossroads,” a paper<br />

presented at the Annual Forum <strong>of</strong> the Association for Institutional Research in Atlanta<br />

in June. In addition, Godin was a fellow at the AIR/NCES/NSF <strong>Summer</strong> Data Policy<br />

Institute in June.<br />

Godin and Hartley also co-authored A Study <strong>of</strong> Career Patterns <strong>of</strong> the Presidents <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Independent</strong> <strong>Colleges</strong> and Universities (see page 12 for a story about the study).<br />

staff spotlight—People Who Make CIC Work<br />

Kate Webber joined CIC in August 2008 as membership<br />

manager. She is responsible for working with the staff and<br />

Board <strong>of</strong> Directors to recruit and retain members, managing<br />

CIC’s Tuition Exchange Program, and maintaining membership<br />

records. Webber started her pr<strong>of</strong>essional career at Bank One<br />

and quickly moved through the ranks from trainer to business<br />

analyst and, finally, auditor. She is a May 2008 graduate <strong>of</strong><br />

Wilson College (PA), where she double-majored in psychology and sociology. While<br />

at Wilson, she served as student ambassador <strong>of</strong> the Women with Children program<br />

and later as president <strong>of</strong> the Wilson College Student Government Association.<br />

Webber grew up in Maryland and currently resides in Fairfax, VA with her eightyear-old<br />

son.<br />
