policies (rules and regulations) with their students prior to their arrival in Ames. The director was<br />

instructed to mail each <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Principal the All-State housing regulations. It was also determined<br />

that next years All-State Auditions would begin at 9:00 AM rather than 8:00 AM.<br />

MARCHING BAND FESTIVAL: The registration report was presented and explained. This year’s<br />

event experienced an overall decrease in participation by 1 band. The weather in both halves of the state<br />

was ideal for marching.<br />

SHOW-JAZZ CHOIR/JAZZ BAND FESTIVAL: MMS (Ney/Stogdill) Show Choirs may use one<br />

school approved adult to staff a keyboard, bass, or drumset combo position where an eligible student is<br />

not available. PASSED MMS (Lehmann, Stogdill) to add the statement to the duplication of personnel<br />

regulation that “Show choir backup ensembles are not subject to the duplication of personnel<br />

regulation.” PASSED MMS (Stogdill/Lehmann) change the show choir registration to indicated two<br />

types: Mixed and Unisex Show Choirs. PASSED<br />

SOLO/SMALL ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL: The director presented ACT testing concerns that the tests<br />

conflict with the Class 2A Solo/Small Ensemble Festival date. MMS (Ney/Stogdill) to allow Smart<br />

<strong>Music</strong> accompaniments for vocal entries as well. PASSED<br />

LARGE GROUP FESTIVAL: The director provided an update on the progress of the Literature<br />

Recording Project for Grade 2 and Grade 3 literature on the IHSMA Required Literature List for<br />

Concert Bands noting that the project will begin again as soon as Dr. Welch is able.<br />

DAG CONCERNS and other concerns not covered by the agenda: Jim Fritz, Sharon Day, Tom<br />

Gerking each presented concerns brought to them by their respective districts.<br />

ASSOCIATION CONCERNS: It was determined that the IHSMA Membership Dues letter sent out in<br />

July will be addressed to each <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong>s Business Manager. Those committee members in<br />

attendance provided a review of sessions attending and topics found at the National Federation Summer<br />

Meeting held in Washington, DC this past July. The board was canvassed for topics they would like to<br />

see at this next summers meeting. The director reported 24 adjudicators attended certification sessions<br />

this past August and September and that 14 New Directors attended the New Director Orientation<br />

meetings. A review of the policies of the IHSMA was conducted. MMS (Nugent/Lehmann) to provide a<br />

$300 IAAE membership. PASSED Vice-President Kuehner turned the chair over to the director for the<br />

purpose of electing officers. MMS (Nugent/Lehmann) to nominate Leon Kuehner for the office of<br />

President. Kuehner declined the nomination. Officers for the 2008-<strong>2009</strong> year will be President – Leon<br />

Kuehner, Vice-President - Mark Lehmann, and Treasurer – Susan Stogdill. The meeting was turned<br />

back over to President Kuehner. The director provided a thank you letter from Tom Nugent. <strong>School</strong><br />

Fees were discussed. MMS (Ney/Stogdill) to adjourn at 2:40 PM. PASSED<br />
