MINUTES OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING AND<br />

DISTRICT ADVISORY GROUP MEETING<br />

October 23, 2008<br />

The Executive Committee and District Advisory Group of the <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>Music</strong> Association met<br />

at 9:00 a.m., October 23, 2008, in Boone, IA. Members of the Executive Committee present were: Mark<br />

Lehmann, Waverly; Leon Kuehner, Hampton; Susan Stogdill, Malvern; Michael Teigland, Indianola;<br />

and Brian Ney, Creco. Absent was Todd Lettow, Hampton. Members of the District Advisory Group<br />

present were: Jim Fritz, Decorah; Daryl Sherman, Lake Mills; Robert Youngquist, Washington; Sharon<br />

Day, Garden Grove; and Teresa <strong>No</strong>ok, Villica. Absent was Tom Gerking, Sloan. Also in attendance<br />

was Alan Greiner, Executive Director, who served as the recording secretary. Vice-President Kuehner<br />

chaired the meeting.<br />

A brief introduction of members present was held. Director Greiner described the roles and<br />

responsibilities of Executive Board members the roles and responsibilities of the District Advisory<br />

Group members.<br />

Election Chair Sherman provided a report on the outcome of the Fall Election for Executive Committee<br />

and DAG. Michael Teigland was elected to the Executive Committee, Term Expiring in 2013 and Brian<br />

Ney was elected to the Executive Committee, Term Expiring in 2010. Sharon Day, Garden Grove,<br />

Instrumental Representative; Teresa <strong>No</strong>ok, Villisca, Administrative Representative; and Robert<br />

Youngquist, Washington, Vocal Representative were elected to the District Advisory Group, Terms<br />

Expiring 2011. MMS (Lehmann/Stogdill) to approve the Election Report as presented. PASSED<br />

MMS (Stogdill/Teigland) to approve the minutes of the July 4, 2008 meeting. PASSED<br />

MMS(Lehmann/Stogdill) to approve the financial bills as submitted. PASSED<br />

Director Greiner presented the auditors written report and notified the committee that James Henkel<br />

from Henkel and Associates will be in attendance at <strong>January</strong>’s meeting to review the report with them.<br />

ALL-STATE MUSIC FESTIVAL: Director Greiner presented the registration report for the 2008<br />

festival. Participation levels have declined in all areas except piano. The overall registration numbers<br />

have decreased 303 entries. Work details and chaperone availability were determined. MMS<br />

(Stogdill/Ney) to approve C. David Rutt, Forest City; Greg James, West Union; Rubert Huinker,<br />

Jackson Junction; Richard Scheffel, Maynard; and Kent Crawford, Maquoketa as Teacher Tenure<br />

Award candidates for this year. PASSED Vernon Haagsma, Pella was unanimously approved<br />

<strong>No</strong>vember 3, 2008 via email as a Teacher Tenure Award Candidate. Director Greiner presented the T-<br />

shirt, video, and CD sales procedures to be used in Ames. The director presented a progress report on<br />

the 63 rd Annual Festival. MMS (Ney/Lehmann) to approve the IPTV Broadcast sponsors as submitted.<br />

PASSED The All-State Discipline Hearing policy and All-State Festival Rules were presented and<br />

discussed. The director was instructed to devise a parent/student/director agreement sheet for regarding<br />

the All-State rules and regulations. This sheet is to be turned by the director at the time of registration at<br />

the festival. The director was instructed to email all schools and remind them to review the housing<br />
