Message from the
Chairman of the Examination
Sub-Committee
The results of the 2001 qualifying
examination have already been
dispatched to all candidates in
August. The average score of the
thirteen papers attempted by 97
candidates was 52.06%. The lowest
passing rate was 14.29% in the
subject of Logistics Management.
Economics and its Application in
Transport followed this with a
passing rate of 33.33%.
This year’s examination had a high
absentee rate of 31%. Candidates
should consider the time and their
availability during the examination
period before they submit their
application forms. Candidates are
expected to have studied the subject
thoroughly and read the questions
carefully in the examination. We
hope that candidates would also
make full use of this study pack in
their revision and attend the
relevant courses conducted by CILT
to ensure a pass in the examination.
The following chart shows the
average pass rate in percentage for
the twelve papers.
C01 – Management Accounting and Finance
C02 – Managing Transport Operations
C03 – Economics and Its Application in Transport
C04 – Human Resources Management
C05 – Marketing in Transport
C06 – Transport Policy and Planning
C07 – Business Strategy and Policy in Transport
EM02 – Air Transport Management
EM03 – Maritime Transport Management
EM04 – Rail Transport Management
EM05 – Road Transport Management
EM06 – Logistics Management
The most common comments received
from the examiners were:
• Failed to comprehend the current
industry trend and did not provide an
adequate answer to obtain a pass
mark for the question;
• Unable to demonstrate his/her
understanding of the concept. It may
be due to misinterpretation of the
question;
• Provided very brief answers or simply
in point form. Knew the subject
matter but could not portray the
concepts or arguments clearly;
• Either did not study the subject well
or misunderstood the questions
Following the change in the official
name of the Institute from CIT in Hong
Kong to CILT in Hong Kong, the
syllabus of the qualifying examination
was bound to change and will include
more logistics related subjects in the
forthcoming examinations.
If you have any suggestion or comment
regarding the examination, please let us
know. Comments are also invited for
revision of any subject and for the
development of new subjects. Your
comments will receive careful
consideration by the Examination Subcommittee.
