The 23rd Annual
“Big Picture” Sire Sale
Representing 23 Years Of Our Focus On Efficient Productivity, Maternal
Soundness, Uniform Style, Longevity, and Profitability
Multiple Generations of Easy-Calving, Problem-Free, Solid-Black, Polled Cattle…
Reliable, Dependable Stock From Our Best Female Lines
www.greenvalleycattle.com
Dear Cattlemen,
“Our biggest day yet.” As we prepare for our 23rd Spring Sale I am encouraged by and extremely
thankful for you, our friends and customers. We value your friendship and welcome
your input as to how our genetics can better fit your needs. Our program is truly customer
driven and with that I owe you a “Special Thanks” for a memorable fall female sale. Please keep
us posted as to how the females are working for you.
March 2 will be a special day for our family. After much thought, we made the decision to offer
our fall-calving cows on this sale along with some more top-notch spring calving cows. For years
we have been in the building/growing mode and mindset and this fall I suddenly realized how
many we had accumulated – Wow! In short, we’ve got too many cattle to best fit our situation
and about all the work load we can handle. So, after years of building and improving, it is time
now to get our numbers back to a more manageable level. Selling the entire mature fall herd is
the most logical solution due to location and numbers and we decided if we’re going to sell a few then
we might as well sell them all. It’s quite a set of cows that have been very good to us; I know they will be to you as well.
On to the bulls…Our plans seem to be working well because this is a very exciting group! In particular, this crop
of Angus bulls really gets me excited about the future of that division as well as the Maines. The Pilgrim and Settler
calves have exceeded our expectations and we hope you agree. The “old stand bys” like Suh and Closing Bell
continue to sire the right kind of cattle and our young Maine bulls are really contributing nicely. We will continue
to explore the genetics that are working best for us and for you while, as always, staying focused on “Big Picture”
perspectives like the balance of performance, phenotype, EPD excellence, and maternal traits.
A supplement sheet will be available at sale time including ADG, scrotal, and DNA information. The Maine
bulls will have Igenity DNA information and all Angus bulls have Phizer HD 50K information along with genomic
enhanced EPD’s including carcass data. We did not have the DNA information at the time of printing
this catalog so we will instead post it on our website along with videos of each bull selling by Feb. 20th.
The bulls will again be semen tested and available for load out with a $50 discount if you choose to take them
sale day. It is fine if you choose to leave your bulls with us to feed and deliver at a later date, but please remember
that we cannot be responsible for any injury or death which may occur during that time. We encourage you
to obtain insurance on your purchases at the clerk’s desk sale day. We stand behind our bulls and are anxious
to hear how they perform for you. If you have any problems we want to know so that we can solve them.
For the first time we will broadcast our auction live on RFD-TV through Superior Livestock. The details for
this may be found on page 71 of this booklet and we are excited about how this service will make it even easier for our customers
to purchase cattle here. Please let us know what you think of the change in format.
We will have trucks ready to run to all corners of the country – especially with these heavy-bred cows – so do not be afraid to
bid on all your favorites; we hope there are plenty to go around.
On a personal note, our family continues to grow with 3 grandchildren and another on the way. On that subject – “more is
better” and we are so thankful. Our “cattle family” however grew a little too much so we’ve decided to make March 2 our
biggest day ever at Green Valley. Along with my great crew, we’re working hard to get ready and we would love to have you as
our guest at the ranch. I am confident it will be worth your trip.
Good luck calving and thank you for your interest and support. We are truly grateful.
Dennis Garwood (402) 925-2970 or (402) 340-4788 (C)
sibling to her 2012 heifer that arrived with a 77 lb BW — this massive and favorite cow works well
at adding body and style while reducing birth weight; a hard to find combination.
