FOOD DRIVE — The New Vision Ministry Youth
will be staging a canned food drive for the hungry
children of Wise County. Drop off will be at N-
Out in Alvord 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 29.

ELVIS’ BROTHER VISITS — Elvis Presley’s younger
rother Rick Stanley will visit Grace Fellowship

EMORIAL DAY CLOSING — All Wise County offices

ELAY WRAP-UP — The Wise County Relay for Life
rap-Up party is 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, at
ecatur Church of Christ. A hot dog dinner will be
erved and all Relay awards will be presented. Team
aptains are encouraged to attend and may bring a

OUNCIL MEET AND GREET — The Bridgeport
City Council will hold a meet and greet 6 to 7 p.m.
Tuesday, June 1, in the City Hall Council Chambers
at 900 Thompson St. The meet and greet will give
citizens the opportunity to meet newly elected
Mayor Keith McComis, council member Matt Van
Hoose and City Administrator Brandon Emmons.
Other members of the city council will also be
present.

101, of Decatur was May
25 at Eagle Drive Baptist
Church with David Isbell
and Don Spain officiating.
Burial was at Bethel Cemetery.
Doyle died Saturday, May
22, 2010, in Decatur.
Born Dec. 25, 1908, in
Bowie to William and Matilda
Hachlel, she married Joe
Bailey Doyle Feb. 14, 1932,
in Slidell.
She was preceded in death
by her husband; brothers,
Albert Marvin and Melvin
Hachtel; and sisters, Flora
Branch and Vivian Montgomery.
She is survived by her
daughter, Marie Neighbors
of Decatur; grandson,
Jerry Neighbors and
wife, Janie, of Valley View;
great-grandchildren, Tami
Blythe, Heather Whited
and Andrew Neighbors;
DEATHS

great-great-grandchildren,
Layni and Zane Blythe and
Colton, Coy and Chaynie
Whited; and several nieces
and nephews.

Funeral for Patricia Anne
Gleason, 75, of Jacksboro
was May 23 at Coker Funeral
Home with BJ Nunley
officiating. Burial was at
Oakwood Cemetery.
Gleason died Thursday,
May 20, 2010, in Decatur.
Born April 18, 1935, in
Dallas to Robert and Verlie
Turner, she was a retired
teacher for the Dallas school
district and a member of
the First Baptist Church in
Mesquite.
She is survived by her husband,
William “Bill” Gleason;
sons, Scott Gleason of
Tomball, David Gleason and
wife, Cindy, of Justin and
Bruce Gleason of Jacksboro;
grandchildren, Christy, Kelly,
Caleb, Kevin, Kerry and
Adam Gleason, Casey Mestes
Ray and Michael Mestes;
brother, Charles Turner
PATRICIA GLEASON
of Greensboro, N.C.; sister,
Sandra Turner Harper of
DeSoto.

BARBECUE SUPPER — The Chico Volunteer Fire
Department will have its annual barbecue supper
beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at the fire
all. Prices are $7 for adults, $4 for children ages
to 12, and children 5 and under are free. The
eal includes brisket, chicken or smoked sausage,
ole slaw, potato salad, beans, dessert and tea.
he Buckner Band will perform. Raffle tickets for
a donated beef are $10 at city hall, and the fire
department and the drawing will be held at the
supper. Whole, smoked briskets will be sold for $40.

HEALTH FORUM — The Wise County Health Forum
will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Decatur City
Hall Community Room. The agenda will including
a wrap up of the Health Fair, an update on the
CCHAPS program and results of the community
health survey/assessment.
LUNCH TO GO — The Decatur Chamber of
Commerce’s Lunch to Go this month is sponsored
by the Wise County Messenger 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Thursday, May 27. A barbecue sandwich, chips,
cookie and a drink are $6 and available by pick up
at the office, located at 115 S. Trinity, or delivery.
To schedule a delivery, call Misty Hudson by
Wednesday, May 26, at (940) 627-3107. A portion
of the proceeds benefit the Decatur Chamber of
Commerce Scholarship program.
RETIREMENT PARTY — A retirement party honoring
Mary Nell South is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, May
28, at Wells Fargo Bank on South Farm Road 51.
HISTORICAL SOCIETY — The Wise County Historical
Society will meet at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 27, at
the Wise County Heritage Museum in Decatur. Sue
Tackel will speak on Wise County Cemeteries. The
public is invited.
PARK DEDICATION — The Rhome Veterans Park will
be dedicated at 2 p.m. on Memorial Day Monday,
May 31. The park is located at the corner of Second
Street and Virginia Lane.

officiating.
Mercer died Thursday,
May 20, 2010, in Boyd.
Born Dec. 30, 1940, in
Boyd to John Allen and Lillie
Cleo (Dean) Mercer, he
served in the Marines and
Army. He was a retired construction
worker.
He is survived by his
mother, Lillie Adams of
Boyd; sisters, LaVenia Collier
and husband, Rick, and
JoAnn Russell, all of Fort
Worth; brother, Tom Mercer
and wife, Kelly, of Saginaw;
and numerous nieces and
nephews.

Credit By Exam
Decatur ISD will provide Credit by Exam for grades 1 through 12
for the purpose of grade or course acceleration and credit recovery.
Students in grades 1 - 5 may be accelerated one grade level upon
successful completion of the exam, school recommendation and
parent consent. Students in grades 6 through 12 may earn credit for an
academic course upon successful completion of the exam and school
recommendation. Credit by Exam dates for Summer 2010 are:
