PROGRAM OVERVIEW
René Zimmermann
MBS Alumnus
“It’s hard to imagine an equally compact and better preparation
for today’s business requirements. Business theory is
rounded off with personality training, economic and cultural
history as well as presentations, team projects, and case
studies. I’m convinced that the MBS bachelor program
perfectly prepares for a successful professional future.”
8

At Munich Business School, your initiative
and curiosity will pay off – and combined
with the state-of-the-art business background
our coursework provides, you’ll
walk away a well-rounded, globally conscious,
and in-demand business person.
(No wonder we’ve received so many high
rankings.) You get the best of both
worlds: a tightly structured curriculum,
and the freedom, within that structure, to
explore the areas that fascinate you.
TIMEFRAME
At Munich Business School, you get to choose. The study
option Bachelor MORE can be completed in three compact
years and will take you abroad for one semester. This
is an interesting choice for students who plan to deepen
their business education in a subsequent Master’s degree
program – or simply prefer an intense but short path to
their first degree. If you opt for the Bachelor GLOBAL,
you’ll spend a second semester as well as a second integrated
internship in a foreign country, thus accumulating
even more career relevant experience and improving your
foreign language skills to a proficient level. This study
option can be completed in three and a half years.
BUSINESS FOUNDATION
You’ll leave Munich Business School with a lot more than a
bachelor degree: thanks to our faculty of corporate professionals,
you’ll have a rock-solid theoretical basis, as well as
fresh insight on how those fundamentals get applied to
real-world business situations. With three internships (at
least one local and one abroad) under your belt, you’ll have
substantial work experience in the business world. And
you’ll be equipped with the “soft skills” – communicating
effectively, working well within teams – that are gaining currency.
It’s this deeply integrated combination of theory and
practice that makes exceptional business people. And that’s
what Munich Business School stands for.
INTERNATIONAL FOCUS
Set sail! Your coursework here in Munich and abroad will
enrich you with a truly global take on business. Students
who choose to study in English will follow the German and
Western European Business Studies program. And if
you’re fluent in German, we offer six other programs spanning
Europe (France, Italy or Spain), the Middle East, Asia,
and Russia. All students will choose from our extensive list
of language courses and learn a new tongue – and if you’re
up for it, you can give yourself an even bigger competitive
edge by taking on a third language. For your semester(s)
abroad, you will study at a partner university and take on
an internship that immerses you in that region’s culture,
language, and business practices.
EVERDAY EXCELLENCE PAYS OFF
We encourage our students to bring their “A-game” to
class every day – not just when finals week comes around.
That’s why we put more value in smaller tests spaced regularly
throughout each semester. 40% of your final grade
will be based on these Continued Performance Tests, while
the other 60% comes from your finals. This means it’s always
worth it to give your best. Raise your hand, team up
with your classmates, tackle your projects with passion …
and maybe you won’t have to spend that last weeks of the
semester trapped in the library.
concepts ever get you excited Are you fascinated
BUSINESS PLAN
In the corporate world, every idea needs a business plan to
come to life. Done right, it can both persuade potential investors
start out on the right foot. During our workshop, you and
your team will create a business plan based on the economic
knowledge you’ve gained so far. It’s an exciting challenge
that our students welcome. The best part This is
much more than a trial run. Some of the business plans
developed during this workshop have helped to get real
startups going.
Many members of our faculty commute between the classroom
and the boardrooms of international corporations.
This means that you’ll work with up-to-date business concepts
and learn about precisely those best practices that
help companies succeed today. In addition, our faculty’s
strong networks are a valuable asset to students looking
for internships or partner companies for their theses.
BACHELOR IN
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS:
THE HIGHLIGHTS
If you open the doors to our classrooms,
you’ll most likely see students engaging in
debates or putting their heads together to
tackle a tough business assignment.
At Munich Business School, we firmly believe
that the more you are personally invested
in a task, the more you take away
from it. That’s why many of our courses
include lively, hands-on projects that encourage
both collaboration and competition.
Learn how to put your ego aside and
work within a team. Enjoy the thrills of
success, and allow yourself to occasionally
fail without succumbing to defeat.
20

Christian Nerlinger
Former MBS student
“Working in groups during our social project “Play
soccer – Get together” was as exciting as it was intense.
The best part of is that the projects really
come to life at MBS. It’s a great motivation to see
how we were using our potential for a good cause
and could help many under-privileged children.”
BUSINESS PLAN
In the corporate world, every idea needs a business plan to
come to life. Done right, it can both persuade potential investors
to get involved and help entrepreneurs to fine-tune
their strategy. In short, a business plan helps a company
start out on the right foot. During our workshop, you and
your team will create a business plan based on the economic
knowledge you’ve gained so far. It’s an exciting challenge
that our students welcome. The best part This is
much more than a trial run. Some of the business plans
developed during this workshop have helped to get real
startups going.
SOCIAL PROJECT
Social responsibility starts with the person in the mirror.
And at Munich Business School, you’ll get the chance to
develop your social consciousness while learning how to
build a business project. When you take this course, you’ll
get to plan a project related to a social or non-profit cause
and bring it to life as part of a team (take a look at the photos
to see other MBS bachelor students bringing their social
projects to life). In the process, you’ll pick up some
crucial project management skills. We are proud to promise
you that the knowledge and experience you gain during
your Bachelor work will help you to make a difference
in the world.
INTERNATIONAL
BUSINESS GAME
Next to heading up an actual company, this computerbased
business game – also used by some of the world's
largest companies – is the best way to understand the
inner workings of corporations. Create a virtual enterprise
as part of a team, put your management instincts to the
test, and see how every decision affects the entire company.
Your goal: increase the market value of your business
until you’ve overtaken the competition. You’ll come face
to face with the joy of success and the anger that comes
with failure. And what you’ll learn will stay with you
throughout your career.
ECONOMIC AND
CULTURAL HISTORY
You’ll build a solid foundation of business knowledge and
experience at Munich Business School – that goes without
saying. But we also provide you with a “big picture” perspective
on how historical developments affect current
events. The course “Economic and Cultural History,” a part
of your curriculum for four semesters, has become a cult
subject among our Bachelor students, in spite of the considerable
workload. It will help you to grow into a wellrounded
individual who’s in the know about the business
world – and the world at large.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
OF A BACHELOR STUDENT
22

The alarm goes off. Usually you hit
“snooze” for at least half an hour. But
this time you jump out of bed, excited
and a little nervous. Because today, it’s
your turn to present ideas for a nonprofit
project in front of the class.
You challenge a friend to a brief foosball
competition in the cafeteria. You don’t
have to ask twice.
On the subway to “Westendstrasse”.
The ride will be short, as Munich Business
School is right in the center of
town. You’ll have just enough time to go
through your presentation and take a
few bites from your breakfast sandwich.
German Business Law is complex, even
daunting at times. But the professor
breaks it down in a way that’s both easy
to understand and relevant – focusing
on business situations that you may encounter
in your career.
Your teammates greet you in the cafeteria.
You have half an hour to talk
about the presentation – and last
night’s party. Everyone is in high spirits,
wondering aloud what the class and
professor will think of the presentation.
The Integrated Project course starts. The
presentations of your fellow students are
fun to watch and also inspiring. A great
mix. Then it’s your turn. You take a deep
breath, and give that presentation everything
you’ve got. The class provides feedback,
praise, and criticism. You’re stoked.
School’s out. Phew! The three courses
per day are demanding, no doubt about
it. But the classes are engaging and you
have plenty of support. It’s a great learning
environment: the students keep
each other motivated and the teachers
are happy to lend an ear, even after
school hours.
You’re back home for now. There’s a
reading assignment for tomorrow, and
you want to jot down a few more ideas
for your project.
Lunch break! A couple of classmates invite
you to a café just a few of minutes
away. You get “Weißwürste”, a regional
dish that is a favorite among international
students.
“Students Clubbing” is hosting another
party tonight. But you’ll skip it and go to
the movies with a few other students.
You watch a film in German – a great
way to prepare for your German
language course the next day.
The next two hours are dedicated to
Economics. You’ve heard about the
“supply and demand” principle but this
course goes deeper, helping you gain a
thorough understanding of how a competitive
economy really works.
You set your alarm. Your first class
doesn’t start till 10:30 in the morning.
You turn in, already looking forward to
tomorrow.
23

STUDENT LIFE
Here at MBS, we’ve got everything
you need to work hard,
play hard, and begin your
journey to corporate success.
Munich is a university city
that’s also host to dozens of
corporate headquarters.
Every day, the city hums with
the energy of students like
you hurrying to class and discussing
projects in sidewalk
cafés. At night and at the
weekends, you’ll find those
same people competing at
sports, dancing up a storm at
the clubs or throwing dinner
parties.
24

Thomas Pflugbeil
MBS Alumnus
“I will never forget my time studying at Munich Business
School: the unique MBS culture that enforces
excellence, the personal campus atmosphere and not
to forget the time we spent downtown with great
people from all around the globe. Three years of our
bachelor program have been passing by very quickly
but the friendships we all made are going to last for
a lifetime.”
WORK
One thing’s for sure: you’re going to learn in ways you’ve
never learned before. The volume of work might surprise
you at first, and that’s why we place such strong emphasis
on teamwork and forging strong relationships with any of
our over eighty instructors. Build teams outside of class,
participate in student associations, and don’t be afraid of
a little heated debate: it will spur you on toward producing
your best work. The more you reach out to others, the
more confident you’ll be in tackling the challenges presented
by your classes.
FUN
While you’re making the grade, don’t forget to leave your
desk every once in a while. Meet up with friends and hit
the town. We highly recommend exploring the city’s museums
and taking in its architecture or taking weekend
trips into the surrounding Alps. If you need to let off some
steam, you’ll have ample access to the sports facilities of
neighboring universities. With a robust group of friends
and a little curiosity, you’ll make discoveries that can enrich
and invigorate your studies.
STUDENT INITIATIVES
For the week leading up to the exam, I read
the most recent issues of “The Economist”,
“The Financial Times”, and “The Times”.
I think with a little business knowledge it’s
easy to nail the exam. I suggest you also take
some online quizzes for the general
knowledge section of your exam. It’s best to
do them in English so you’re familiar with the
vocabulary and use of terms.
On the next page you’ll find more
recommendations to point you in the right directions.
It all depends on good performance,
creativity, and a solid foundation
of knowledge.
WELCOME TO MUNICH
MBS is located in one of Germany’s
most beautiful cities.
It offers the best of both
worlds: the serenity of a classical
city, and the energy of a
cultural hotspot and international
business hub.
Surrounded by the majestic
peaks of the Alps, full of
quirky details, and steeped in
tradition, Munich is perfect
for anyone who wants to
learn in an inspiring setting.
30

Rachel Chang
MBS Alumna
“As a Brazilian citizen I immediately felt at home in
Munich. It is a beautiful and manageable metropolis
– an ideal place for learning and living. I really enjoy
the fact that it is so close to nature. There are many
parks in town. The Alps and the Bavarian lakes are
just outside the city limits. Anyone who enjoys sports,
culture and a true quality of life will find plenty to do
in Munich and vicinity.”
BUSINESS HUB
Strewn with German corporations (e.g. BMW, Allianz, Siemens)
and Global Players (Microsoft, General Electric,
Intel, Google), Munich is one of Europe’s most vibrant
economic centers. The leading industries are new technologies,
media, life sciences, and automotive. But small
and large companies from all industries find Munich’s
business environment stimulating.
In line with our commitment to real world relevance, Munich
Business School has been cultivating close relations
to the region’s corporations for years – and our students
benefit from our robust network when they look for internships,
partner companies for their theses, and employment
after graduation.
MAJESTIC SURROUNDINGS
With the Alps around the corner and picturesque Bavarian
towns dotting the landscape just outside of Munich, you’ll
have plenty of opportunity for exciting day trips and
weekend outings. Ski and snowboard to your heart’s content
in the cold season and go hiking and camping during
the summer months. Light and heavy rail will take you
everywhere safely and inexpensively. And why not investing
in a bicycle so you can get around easily and take in
the beauty of the city and its surroundings at your own
pace and with the wind in your face It’s the common
means of transportation for students in Munich and you’ll
find bike lanes all over town.
EXTRACURRICULAR GOLDMINE
Even when you’re new to Munich, a wealth of extracurricular
activities – organized by our student initiative “Students
Clubbing” and ranging from “Running Dinners” to
attending the many cultural events – will save you from
feeling lost or lonely. An annual highlight is the MBS Wintertrophy,
a long weekend in the snowy Alps that our students
organize every February. Students from universities
all over Germany and Europe are invited. In fact, the MBS
Wintertrophy has grown to be the largest wintersports
event of all business universities in Germany.
Munich also offers countless sights, museums, restaurants,
bars ... and let’s not forget “Oktoberfest”, the world’s largest
festival. Yes, you will study hard at Munich Business
School, but you will also have the time of your life in Munich.
few essentials you’ll need to
take care of. And while these
responsibilities will be yours
to deal with, we’re here to
point you in the right direction
you need it. Here’s a brief
overview of what you’ll need
to do.
Amparo Nájera-Alesón
Former Visiting Student
“I really enjoyed the close contacts with local students
and the colorful composition of the student
body, which comprised people from many different
countries. I learned a lot of new things about culture
and the German economy. Every day, my German
language skills improved thanks to the intensive
language courses they offer at MBS.”
VISAS
German law requires non-EU nationals to apply for a Student
Visa (Visum für Studienzwecke). As visa requirements
differ for each country, you have to contact the German
Embassy in your country to obtain correct information. The
Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt) provides a table
of countries that shows which citizens require/do not
require visas to enter Germany.
Since the visa process can be rather lengthy, we recommend
that you obtain general information on how to apply
for a student visa well in advance of the date you wish to
begin your academic studies. The actual visa process can
only be started after you have received the letter of
acceptance from Munich Business School.
Do not enter Germany with a tourist visa, because it cannot
be changed into a residence permit for studies, not
even if you are in possession of the admission certificate to
a German university. In such a case you would have to
return to your home country!
The German Embassy issuing your visa will send the visa
application directly to the Alien Registration Office (Ausländerbehörde)
of the German town you wish to reside.
Once you are in Germany, you will have to register with
the Ausländerbehörde where you will also receive more
information on how to extend your visa.
HOUSING
Accepted incoming students have the option to either find
a place on their own, or take advantage of off-campus housing
through a property management company which MBS
has partnered with. Students wanting to take advantage
of this housing option can reserve accommodation in advance.
Prices start at EUR 420 per month for a furnished
single room.
COST OF LIVING
We estimate that your living costs will be around EUR 950
per month. Your budget will mostly depend on how you
manage your free time (e.g. travelling, eating out, opera,
concerts, using sports facilities, visiting museums and
clubs). Below is an example of an exchange student’s
monthly budget:
Rent (for a single room): EUR 420
Groceries/food: EUR 300
Public transportation: EUR 30
Phone/Internet: EUR 50
Miscellaneous: EUR 150
Estimated monthly budget: EUR 950
HEALTH INSURANCE
All students must have health insurance for their studies in
Germany and either submit proof of acceptable health insurance
from their country or purchase health insurance in
Germany. Without health insurance, students may not register
for courses at Munich Business School.
