Greetings to all members of our school’s community. Nga
mihi nui ki a koutou.
Welcome to the first newsletter of the last term.
With the All Blacks the Rugby World Champs,
the days getting longer and the temperatures
getting hotter, it is a really good time of the year
and I know the seven and a half week term will
just fly. Enjoy it.
interschool event – their division being in the
Intermediate final.
ENROLMENTS
Thank you to those who have already filled out
and returned their Year 6 child’s enrolment
form. If you have not filled one out and know
that he/she is coming to Monrad in 2011 please
do so as soon as possible.
We base our classes and placement of teachers
on the known numbers of pupils we have forms
for. If you are not sure whether you have
enrolled your child phone the office on (06)
3579777 and we will be able to tell you. If you
want help in completing the enrolment from
please give me a phone call and I will come to
your house to assist. If you want to discuss any
aspect of Monrad or intermediate education,
again please give me a call.
When returning your enrolment form, please
ensure it is accompanied by a copy of your
child’s birth certificate or passport and in the
case of overseas students, other relevant
documentation.
CLASS PLACEMENT
For many years we have allowed
parents/caregivers some say who their child’s
teacher is for the following year and, provided
there is not an overabundance of “requests” for
the same teacher, generally we are able to
accommodate such requests.
If you have a particular teacher, or more
importantly a type of teacher in whose class you
would like your child to be next year, please
convey your wishes to me, either over the
phone or by email to office@monrad.school.nz
MAORI BILINGUAL
We know that we have one of the very best
units in the country.
Initial indications are that we will have an
increase in the numbers of pupils wanting to be
in our Te Reo Rua Unit.
If you are interested in your child being
educated in our bilingual unit please contact me
or better still the unit leader, Pa Cribby. If you

would like more detail again make contact with
one of us.
MAORI ENRICHMENT CLASS
I have had a number of parents express a desire
to have their children not in the Level 1 and 2
unit but in a Maori enrichment class. I am
investigating this and believe if numbers are
sufficient we may be able to offer an
enrichment class attached to our bilingual unit
but following the mainstream curriculum. Being
attached to the unit they would take part in all
unit rituals such as karakia and kapa haka but
follow the same curriculum, including testing, as
the rest of the school.
If this option appeals to you please let me or Pa
Cribby know (3579777) as soon as possible
CWSA (Children with Special Abilitites)
Testing for this class was held this week. Thank
you Year 6s for coming in on Monday. I
thought you did very well.
Test will now be marked. Invitations to join the
class will be sent out on Monday 21 November.
Friday 25 November is the cut off day for
accepting a place in the class.
YEAR 6 ORIENTATION - Thursday 24
November
I would like to welcome and host all Year 6s
who have indicated that they would like to
come to Monrad next year on Thursday 24
November. I look forward to showing you
around your new school. A bus will collect
students from and return them to their primary
schools. Parents/caregivers are welcome to
accompany their child.
PRIZE GIVING AND FINAL ASSEMBLY
Our end of year prize giving (academic and
sporting) will be in our school hall on
Wednesday 14 December starting at 10.30 and
running through to midday. There will be the
presentation of academic and sporting awards,
speeches, waiata, singing, band and choir.
There will be extra seating for around 200
people so family members/whanau are warmly
invited to attend.
School will finish for the day at the end of the
prizegiving.
FINAL ASSEMBLY
This will be held in our School Hall on
Thursday 15 December at 11.00am. I am
hoping to have a closing ceremony and it will
finish with departing Year 8s and staff being
piped from the Hall around midday. The piping
out will mark the end of the 2011 school year.
NGA ITIREAREA
Good luck to our kappa haka roopu and
bilingual unit Tahuna-a-rua as they travel to
Whangarei on Saturday to compete in the
primary/intermediate schools National Kapa
Haka Finals. They have worked so hard with
their tutors all year to put up a stunning
performance and I know that they will be
magnificent ambassadors to Monrad,
Manawatu, and Rangitane. Kia Kourou.
term. Their draft report arrived last Friday and
