Aquaculture Development in New
Zealand: Scientific and Technical
Information to Inform Mäori.
Te Puni Kökiri commissioned the
National Institute of Water and
Atmospheric Research (NIWA) to
prepare this report to provide Mäori
with up-to-date research information
on the potential of five species for
aquaculture within 10 regions of
Aotearoa.
The information contained in the
report provides realistic evaluations
on the potential of, and challenges to,
Mäori participation in the aquaculture
industry.
The New Zealand aquaculture industry
looks set to be a billion dollar business
by 2025. Iwi have a significant interest
in contributing to, benefiting from and
participating in aquaculture. The report
is now available online on Te Puni
Kökiri’s website: www.tpk.govt.nz
