Juveniles and Young Persons Arrested for <strong>Crime</strong><br />
2.18 4 006 juveniles (aged under 16) were arrested for crime in 2009, a<br />
drop of 4.1% compared with 4 178 persons in 2008. Most of them were arrested<br />
for shop theft (1 118 persons or 27.9%), miscellaneous thefts (714 persons or<br />
17.8%) and wounding and serious assault (615 persons or 15.4%).<br />
2.19 4 684 young persons (aged between 16 and 20) were arrested for<br />
crime in 2009, a drop of 3.0% compared with 4 830 persons in 2008. Most of<br />
them were arrested for serious narcotics offences (946 persons or 20.2%),<br />
wounding and serious assault (724 persons or 15.5%) and miscellaneous thefts<br />
(591 persons or 12.6%).<br />
