Motor Vehicles Reported Missing<br />
2.13 1 106 motor vehicles were reported missing in 2009, a decrease of<br />
18.7% compared with 1 360 in 2008 (see chart at Appendix N). The number of<br />
reports involving multi-purpose vehicles decreased by 20.2% from 124 in 2008<br />
to 99 in 2009.<br />
2.14 The overall recovery rate of missing motor vehicles in 2009 was<br />
43.2%, compared with 41.0% in 2008.<br />
Street Deception<br />
2.15 There were 55 reported street deception cases in 2009, representing a<br />
decrease of 73.4% compared with 207 in 2008. “Borrow Money / Borrow<br />
Mobile Phones” and “Fake Electronic Parts” were the most prevalent type of<br />
such crime, accounting for 69.1% (38 cases) of all street deception cases in 2009.<br />
The decline in “Spiritual Blessing” case is noteworthy. There were 7 such cases<br />
in 2009, a decrease of 79.4% compared to 34 in 2008. This was mainly<br />
attributable to the stepped-up enforcement actions taken by the Police.<br />
Triad-related <strong>Crime</strong>s<br />
2.16 2 351 cases (3.0%) of all crimes in 2009 were triad-related,<br />
compared with 2 376 cases (3.0%) in 2008. In 2009, most of these crimes were<br />
related to unlawful society offences (684 cases or 29.1%), wounding and serious<br />
assault (603 cases or 25.6%), and blackmail and criminal intimidation (228 cases<br />
or 9.7%).<br />
Domestic Violence<br />
2.17 4 327 domestic violence cases were reported in 2009, a drop of<br />
40.5% compared with 7 278 in 2008. Among them, 2 373 (54.8%) were crime<br />
cases (such as wounding and serious assault, criminal intimidation and criminal<br />
damage) and 1 954 (45.2%) were miscellaneous cases (such as common assault),<br />
compared with 2 341 (32.2%) crime cases and 4 937 (67.8%) miscellaneous<br />
cases in 2008. Since January 2009, Police has introduced a new case<br />
classification of Domestic Incident 1 (such as dispute, nuisance or annoyance of<br />
