The 18th Communications Squadron closes June 7 for an official squadron function all day. All customer services<br />
including the post office will be affected.<br />

-18th Medical Group closure<br />
The 18th Medical Group closes for readiness training from noon to 4:30 p.m. on the third Thursday each month.<br />
Phone lines will be open to schedule appointments. Patients with threats to life, limb, or eyesight should call 911 or<br />
098-934-5911 and/or report to the emergency room at U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa on Camp Foster.<br />

-18th Communication Squadron customer service center closure<br />
The 18th Communication Squadron customer service center, Bldg. 159, closes for training every Thursday from 2-<br />

Road closure<br />
A repavement project takes place on Douglas Blvd., between Fairchild and Bldg. 4081, from May 22 to July 2. This<br />
project will require closing one side of Douglas Blvd. and merging traffic down to one lane in both directions. Please<br />
be prepared for potential delays and detours.<br />

<strong>Kadena</strong> Officers’ Christian Fellowship<br />
<strong>Kadena</strong> Officers’ Christian Fellowship provides Bible study and fellowship for officers and their families. OCF meets<br />

Tobacco cessation class<br />
Tobacco cessation classes are held every Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the health and wellness center.<br />

Nutrition class<br />
Better Body, Better Life classes are held every Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the health and wellness center. Better Body,<br />
Better Life is a five-week, hands-on course designed to help individuals seeking to lose and maintain their weight and<br />
enjoy an overall healthy lifestyle.<br />

Partnering with the military workshops<br />
Free professional development workshops are available to all military units presented by University of Phoenix. The<br />
workshops cover a variety of topics including leadership on the edge, effective communications in the workplace and<br />
how to maximize your manpower during difficult budget cutbacks. The workshops are scheduled at your units request<br />
and can be used to earn professional development hours. The workshops cover topical areas which are helpful in<br />
building resiliency.<br />

MilPDS issues<br />
The <strong>Air</strong> Force Personnel Center has encountered an issue with the recent Military Personnel Data System R-12<br />
upgrade which has impacted AFPC's ability to accurately assess enlisted assignment preferences such as base of<br />
preference, join spouse, follow-on, and home-base requests.<br />
This may cause a delay in processing these requests. The AFPC enlisted assignment team anticipates clearing this<br />
back log by June 15. In order to prevent even further delays in processing, we ask applicants to refrain from inquiring<br />
on the status of updates from the Military Personnel Section/Total Force Service Center until this date or until a<br />
further announcement.<br />

Mail drop box modifications<br />
T<strong>here</strong> have been modifications made to the mail drop boxes around <strong>Kadena</strong> to ad<strong>here</strong> to Department of Defense<br />
Postal Regulations. The drop boxes are meant for letter class mail only. Any mail other than letters or documents<br />
may require a customs form and those need to be dropped off inside the post office at the finance window. If you<br />
attempt to put mail that requires a customs form inside the drop boxes it will be returned.<br />

<strong>Kadena</strong> Top 3 scholarship award<br />
The <strong>Kadena</strong> Top 3 is now accepting applications for the Enlisted Family Member Scholarship Award. This award<br />
recognizes and selects one spouse or dependent of an enlisted member who is enrolled in or registered to participate<br />
in a higher education program. All interested applicants must submit a written essay on the topic listed below. Submit<br />
all application requirements to Master Sgt. Mark Ninal at markaristeo.ninal@us.af.mil or Master Sgt. Melinda<br />
Jennings at melinda.jennings@us.af.mil no later than June 7.<br />
The application topic is as follows: “Military service and sacrifice is not just limited to the active-duty member. Explain<br />

Tax center relocation<br />
The <strong>Kadena</strong> Tax Center is located at the <strong>Kadena</strong> Law Center, Bldg. 15. Services will continue with limited staff and<br />
volunteers. The new hours of operation will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and they will accept drop-off tax returns and will<br />
schedule limited appointments.<br />

Housing office hours of operation<br />
The <strong>Kadena</strong> Housing Office, Furnishing Management Office, Appliance Shop, Self-Help Warehouses,<br />
Unaccompanied Housing and satellite offices at Camps Courtney, Kinser and Foster has new hours of operation<br />
starting June 1. The new hours of operation are as follows:<br />
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.<br />

New pre-marriage briefing times<br />
The <strong>Kadena</strong> Legal Office has group pre-marriage briefings every Thursday at 10 a.m. at Bldg. 15. Beginning May 23<br />
U.S. citizens who are entitled to legal assistance, including future spouses, need to bring divorce decree, if<br />
applicable, proof of U.S. citizenship such as birth certificate, U.S. passport or naturalization certificate, and certificate<br />
of citizenship, in order to receive their affidavit of competency to marry.<br />

Run clinic<br />
A run clinic is May 30 at 1 p.m. at the health and wellness center. The clinic is designed to assist individuals seeking<br />
various aspects of running, to include run cues, tips, form, stretching and exercises. This is a two-part run clinic.<br />
The first part is a one-on-one with the exercise physiologist to complete a functional movement screening and the<br />
second part will be a group education/activity session.<br />

June active parenting of teens<br />
An Active Parenting of Teens seminar is every Thursday from June 6 to July 11 at <strong>Kadena</strong> High School from 5:30-7<br />
p.m. This seminar gives parents the guidance and support they need to turn the challenges of raising a teenager into<br />
opportunities for growth. Parents learn methods of respectful discipline, skills for clear honest communication,<br />
concrete strategies to prevent risky behavior and how to be an encouraging parent. T<strong>here</strong> will also be insight into<br />
important issues such as teens being online, bullying and depression.<br />
