Living
Your
Best Life
Like many mothers, Jenni Doherty of Alamo,
California, wanted to stay home and raise her
children, but she needed a source of income
to help support her family financially. Her fear and
doubt about Arbonne was eventually eclipsed by the
greater fear of missing out on a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity, and she jumped in all the way!
Jenni and Charles at GTC 2012 Las Vegas.
It’s hard to believe that over six years ago, life appeared to be moving
along just fine. I was busy raising three beautiful, healthy and happy babies,
Bridget, Tommy and Lilly, who are my everything. I was thrilled to stay
home with them during these all-important years. I paid little attention
to the fact that circumstances had changed, our finances had shifted
dramatically, and the housing market was tumbling. Although I would
rather not admit it, my defense mechanism kicked in, and each time it
resulted in another batch of cupcakes, another party planned, or more
play dates on the calendar. To face reality meant I had to prepare to head
back to the full-time career I had left years earlier, trading playing games
and reading books with the kids for a long commute and rush-hour traffic.
“All my fears were replaced by a greater,
more important fear: the fear of such
a big missed opportunity.”
No matter how much I had loved my career before raising a family, the
decision to re-enter the workforce was based on survival and a lack of
alternatives. I held onto the common misconception that the only way to
successfully meet the financial needs of our family was by signing up to
trade time for money.
Thankfully, before I’d made any major decisions, my amazing Sponsor,
ENVP Anne Sperbeck, approached me with RE 9® product samples at
swim team practice. I found the products to be exactly what I needed
as a mom who had put taking care of herself on the back burner! Then
she caught me off guard, casually mentioning, “You would be really great
at this business.” Bewildered, I thought to myself, “The girl who only
checks her email once a month and was a no-show at the Arbonne event
last week would be great at this business” On the surface, I could not
understand how “shoe money” from a business like this would make good
sense for me. Thankfully my Sponsor persisted, and I agreed to at least
read some articles on network marketing, Arbonne and the people who
represent their company.
Jenni’s Why.
Jenni and her three amazing Whys: Bridget (14), Tommy (12), Lilly (7).
I was amazingly quick to let my lack of understanding and pride cloud my
judgment. Fear crept up in so many ways: How would I afford start-up
costs How would I find the time necessary to book and host events What
would my friends think Ultimately, I live every day with gratitude that all
my fears were replaced by a greater, more important fear: the fear of such
a big missed opportunity — an opportunity that could lead to financially
supporting my family without having to leave them for 10-plus hours a day.
At the same time, saying yes to a product line that completely changed
the appearance of my skin within a few weeks seemed to make great
sense. Who wouldn’t want these products Who wouldn’t want to earn
a full-time salary working part time Who wouldn’t want to be inspired by
the incredible leaders we have to learn from Who wouldn’t want to start a
business without all the headaches that typically accompany that proposition:
overhead, franchise costs, product development Who wouldn’t want
the ability to run a successful business from their laptop computer Who
wouldn’t want travel opportunities and the ability to earn a Mercedes-Benz
“You can choose right now to change
the course of your future and live the life
you want to live.”
Thankfully, I chose to listen to some really amazing leaders; their sincerity,
conviction, knowledge and warmth were so impressive. It was inspiring
to learn from successful individuals who were interested in helping others
succeed. I chose to face the obstacles head on as I allowed my belief to
grow. I had a conversation with my family about the commitment I would
have to make and poured my energy, focus, time and resources into this
business. Through consistent activity of eight Arbonne events per month,
I realized how receptive friends and family (and their friends) were to the
products and opportunity. I had given some things up, but I was committed
to jumping in with both feet — I couldn’t bear to look back with any
regrets! And with no upline team in our area, we definitely had our work
cut out for us as we started to teach and train others.
events and helping new business builders get their businesses up and
running. Life felt busier than ever, but I knew this would be a large part of
the process, giving up time in the short run for the chance to have much
more time and financial freedom in the long run.
Two years after beginning, in June of 2009, our team went Nation. The
following year, two Nations promoted out. Four years later, there are now
over 20 cars on the road (including Sperbeck and Kirsebom Nations) in
our Northern California area and five on our neighborhood block, alone.
Meanwhile, corporate layoffs, shrunken pensions and unrealized hopes
and dreams have affected many. Our message seems more important
than ever. More people have a far greater need for a Plan B and diversified
income. More people understand the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle;
they want to look and feel their best. More people are learning the brilliant
business model of network marketing.
Six years into this business, I am grateful beyond words to work with leaders
whom I highly respect and to be able to weave all aspects of life into
each day. Living a life by design is priceless. Despite the struggles that have
crossed my path in getting here, I know success, by whatever standard, can
be achieved. Doubts, rejection and countless hurdles can and will be in our
path; our job is simply to navigate through the challenges by pressing on,
growing personally, and continuing to share the gift of Arbonne.
Whether this story is your first exposure to Arbonne, or you have been an
Independent Consultant for years, you have a choice. You can choose to
take a moment and think about what is most important to you. You can
choose right now to change the course of your future and live the life you
want to live, versus the life you thought you should live.
To my three big Whys, Bridget, Tommy and Lilly: You mean the world to me.
Thank you for blessing me in so many ways. Thank you for teaching me
the most important things about life, about who I am and who I want to be
for you. I am here for you always, encouraging you to be grateful, dream
big, have compassion and respect for others, and know you are loved!
➤
Early on, team leaders painted the big picture for us over conference calls,
team retreats and corporate training events. I couldn’t stop thinking about
how exciting it would be to have so many people working and achieving
success together, supporting one another as we continued sharing the
Arbonne opportunity and the incredible products. It’s inspiring to know this
company has room at the top not just for a handful of highly compensated
executives, but for every single one of us!
Eight months later, I was thrilled to have reached the level of Regional
Vice President, for this marked the point at which we could help build
belief with white Mercedes-Benz cars on the road. I continued booking
ERVP Melanie Brunner, ENVP Anne Sperbeck and Jenni at GTC 2012 Las Vegas.
