The Monastery <strong>of</strong> the Seven Rays is the organization<br />

related to the activities <strong>of</strong> Chicago occultistmagician<br />

Michael Bertiaux. He received his magical<br />

training in Haiti, where the French Martinist tradition<br />

had been established at the end <strong>of</strong> the eighteenth<br />

century, <strong>and</strong> was ordained <strong>and</strong> consecrated<br />

bishop <strong>of</strong> the Neo-Pythagorean Church. The<br />

Monastery <strong>of</strong> the Seven Rays became popular in the<br />

1970s through its advertisements in Fate Magazine.<br />

It is a magical order that draws upon modern<br />

Thelemic magick, Vodoun, <strong>and</strong> the nineteenthcentury<br />

French Gnostic-occult tradition.<br />

The Neo-Pythagorean Gnostic Church, on the<br />
