NESS<br />

NESS electrochemical capacit<strong>or</strong> technology is a spin-<strong>of</strong>f from the K<strong>or</strong>ean DAEWOO<br />

Group in 1998. They have rapidly created a broad product line <strong>of</strong> electrochemical<br />

capacit<strong>or</strong>s and developed automated capacit<strong>or</strong> manufacturing capability. NESS<br />

capacit<strong>or</strong>s include type II products with a spiral wound cell construction. Their first<br />

<strong>com</strong>mercial shipment <strong>of</strong> capacit<strong>or</strong>s to the US market was in mid-2000. NESS presently<br />

makes cells up to 5000 farads in size, some rated at 2.7 V, among the highest voltage<br />

ratings available. Their larger capacit<strong>or</strong> cells have prismatic packages <strong>f<strong>or</strong></strong> efficient<br />

stacking in modules. NESS recently introduced a 42-V capacit<strong>or</strong> module <strong>f<strong>or</strong></strong> the<br />

emerging automotive market. NESS capacit<strong>or</strong> products are available from their K<strong>or</strong>ean<br />

home <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />

Capacit<strong>or</strong> systems based on an Okamura Lab design approach consist <strong>of</strong> large<br />

electrochemical capacit<strong>or</strong>s with active electronic voltage control. These have been<br />

rep<strong>or</strong>ted at pr<strong>of</strong>essional meetings and were recently presented in the <strong>com</strong>pany web site.<br />

The distinguishing feature is that active voltage control is integral to the capacit<strong>or</strong> system<br />
