Poppies Exhibition
In celebrating the
“spirit of nationhood”,
a tribute Exhibition for
Australian school
students was offered
by Lumina Fibre Arts
Gallery to create a
visual tribute for
exhibition at Lumina,
during Anzac week,
April 2007.
Goodwill, passion, colour and a
feast of poppies set a fabulous
ambience with over 70 works of
art from Years 1 – 9 from around
Victoria.
A Tribute to our ANZACS!
The formal opening by the
Mayor of Stonnington, John
Chandler paid respect to our
memories of Anzac Day and to
the fabulous visual tribute
supplied by the students.
George Logan, representing
Anzac House, was resounding in
his passionate appraisal of the
“magnificent work of Australian
school students paying respect
to the Anzac tribute in their own
unique language”.
In true “nationhood”, we have
developed a language for our
younger Australian generations
to pay tribute to a very fond and
passionate symbol – the
Flanders Poppy.
We should also credit the art
teachers from whom the
inspiration was initiated – and
who, in turn, encouraged a huge
variety of individual and
inspirational media applications
(and stories) from their students.
The RSL Executive were very
impressed with the theme and
the originality of the exhibition
in the public forum. An
announcement was made,
during the Poppies Opening,
that the Exhibition was invited
to re-convene at Anzac House in
November this year, as a visual
tribute for Remembrance Day.
The Poppy lives on!
In the spirit upon which this
flower was originated – many
generations later, our children
have been able to re-create a
connection to a beautiful
symbol of nationhood!
