2.2.3B.3 Side fall and over hangs<br />

There were 7 (8.43%) fatal accidents involving 8 fatalities due to fall <strong>of</strong> sides. Six accidents<br />

took place in belowground workings and one in opencast.<br />

‣ Accident due to fall <strong>of</strong> sides accounted for 8.43% <strong>of</strong> all fatal accidents in coal mines and<br />

15.38% <strong>of</strong> all accidents in belowground workings.<br />

2.2.3B.4 Air blast<br />

There was no accident due to this cause during the year <strong>2009</strong>.<br />

2.2.3C Transportation machinery (Winding)<br />

There was no fatal accident reported due to transportation machinery (Winding) during the<br />

year <strong>2009</strong>.<br />

2.2.3D<br />

Transportation machinery (Other than winding)<br />

There were 31 fatal accidents due to transportation machinery other than winding reported<br />

during the year <strong>2009</strong>. A detailed break–up <strong>of</strong> fatalities under this category are given in the<br />

table below:-<br />

It was seen that the dumpers, rope haulages, tanker/truck and belt conveyors were major<br />

contributing causes under fatalities due to transportation machinery other than winding.<br />

2.2.3D.1 Rope Haulages<br />

There were 5 accidents (16.2% <strong>of</strong> all accidents) caused due to rope haulages during the year<br />

<strong>2009</strong>. Analysis <strong>of</strong> causes revealed that:-<br />

Two accidents were occurred due to hit by moving tubs.<br />

One accident occurred as while traveling slipped and hit by tub.<br />

Two accidents occurred due to person trapped between tub and pillar.<br />

2.2.3D.2 Mechanical / Belt Conveyors:<br />

Three accidents (99% <strong>of</strong> all accidents) resulting in three fatalities were caused by belt<br />

conveyors during <strong>2009</strong>.<br />
