2.0 Coal <strong>Mines</strong><br />

2.1 <strong>General</strong><br />

Number <strong>of</strong> operating coalmines during <strong>2009</strong> was 583 as compared to 569 in 2008. Companywise<br />

number <strong>of</strong> coal mines and production is given in table: 13.<br />

degrees.<br />

During the year total numbers <strong>of</strong> working mines have increased from 569 in 2008 to 569 in<br />

<strong>2009</strong>. Output <strong>of</strong> coal increased from 506.00 million tonnes in 2008 to 559.00 million tonnes in<br />

<strong>2009</strong>. Coal mines under M/s.Coal India Limited contributed 421.00 million tonnes <strong>of</strong> coal<br />

during the year <strong>2009</strong>. Average daily employment in mines increased from 369,000 in 2008 to<br />

374,000 in <strong>2009</strong>. The output per manshift was increased from 4.25 in 2008 to 4.67 during<br />

<strong>2009</strong>. Trend in average daily employment and output per manshift in coalmines is given table:<br />
