Mission:<br />

To provide the Department<br />

of Economic Security (DES)<br />

with high quality and<br />

timely legal advice and<br />

representation to promote<br />

the safety, economic<br />

sufficiency and well-being<br />

of children, adults and<br />

families.<br />

The Child and Family Protection<br />

Division (CFP) is comprised of<br />

three sections:<br />

• Child Support Enforcement<br />

(CSE) provides legal advice and<br />

representation to the DES<br />

Division of Child Support<br />

Enforcement. CSE handles a<br />

high-volume litigation caseload to<br />

establish paternity and establish,<br />

modify and enforce child support<br />

orders.<br />

• Civil & Criminal Litigation &<br />

Advice (CLA) provides advice<br />

and representation to DES in<br />

all areas except child support<br />

and child protective services<br />

matters. The Civil Unit provides<br />

legal services in over 60 areas,<br />

including developmental<br />

disabilities, adult protective<br />

services, licensing, procurement,<br />

employment-related<br />

matters, public benefits and<br />

unemployment insurance<br />

prosecutes persons who have<br />

committed fraud against DES.<br />

• Protective Services (PSS)<br />

provides legal advice and<br />

representation to the DES<br />

Division of Children, Youth and<br />

Families, particularly Child<br />

Protective Services. PSS is on<br />

the frontlines representing DES<br />

in its goal to ensure that the<br />

children in its care are safe and<br />

achieve permanency.<br />

The Division has over 350<br />

employees in 15 locations<br />

statewide. CFP offices are<br />

located in Cottonwood, Glendale,<br />

Flagstaff, Kingman, Mesa,<br />

Nogales, Phoenix, Prescott,<br />

Safford, Tucson and Yuma. All<br />

Sections provide legal advice and<br />

representation from the prelitigation<br />

phase through all levels<br />

of appeal. CFP attorneys litigate<br />

in state and<br />

federal courts<br />

and administrative tribunals.<br />

Child Support<br />

Enforcement Section<br />

The <strong>Attorney</strong> <strong>General</strong>’s Office<br />

seeks to ensure that children<br />

receive the financial support from<br />

their parents to which they are<br />

entitled. The Child Support<br />

Enforcement Section (CSE)<br />

provides legal advice and<br />

representation to the <strong>Arizona</strong><br />

Department of Economic<br />

Security/Division of Child Support<br />

Enforcement (DCSE).<br />

Because more than 40 percent of<br />

<strong>Arizona</strong>’s children are born to<br />

unwed parents, establishing<br />

paternity is the first step in the<br />

child support process. After<br />

paternity has been established,<br />

DCSE can take legal action to<br />

pursue child support. DCSE<br />
