MISSION
The Office for Diversity in Graduate Education
(ODGE) coordinates and leads the University’s initiatives
in the recruitment, funding, retention and
graduation of a diverse graduate and professional
student body. In addition, the ODGE works closely
with The Graduate School and other units that
are concerned with diversity and multiculturalism.
Our services include recruitment and consultation
on the application process, academic support and
mentoring, and outreach to graduate programs
to enhance diverse student experiences.
Application Guidelines
The on-line application fee is $75 per
program. Many departments have
deadlines as early as December 1 for
the following fall semester. To apply
for graduate admission or learn about
specific deadlines, requirements, and
instructions for your program of interest,
please go to:

so you can receive important information
about your graduate program of
interest and the application process.
Funding Your Graduate Education
For the 2012–2013 academic year,
full-time (6–14 credits) tuition will be
$14,570 for in-state residents and
$22,320 for non-residents per year.
Teaching, research, and administrative
assistantships and fellowships provide
the most common forms of support for
graduate students. Assistantships may
include a stipend, cost of tuition and a
health premium for university-subsidized
comprehensive health insurance. Tuition
is waived for students holding a 50%
assistantship. Since departments award
assistantships appointments as well
as other field-specific fellowships and
traineeships, please contact the Director
of Graduate Studies in your program for
more information. If program funds are
limited, students may find campus-wide
assistantships through the Graduate
Assistantship Employment Office.
Diversity of Views and Experiences
(DOVE) Fellowship
Administered by ODGE, the DOVE Fellowship
awarded to first-year students
from under-represented groups, provides
a stipend, tuition, and subsidized
health insurance for one academic year.
Prospective students must be nominated
by a graduate program. Students
who wish to be nominated should contact
the Director of Graduate Studies in
Advance. The recipients of the DOVE
Fellowship are encouraged to participate
in the Community of Scholars Program
(COSP). At least two fellowships
will be awarded to a McNair Scholar. A

Community of Scholars Program
(CSOP)
The Community of Scholars Program
(COSP) works towards creating an
institutional environment that supports
the academic and professional success
of graduate students (US citizens
and permanent residents) who are
under-represented in academia. COSP
focuses on community building and the
professional development of graduate
students. For further information and for

Diverse Communities
Our communities of color are growing
and Minnesota has the fourth highest
rate of minority population increase in
the country. Four distinct communities
of color contribute to the thriving cultural
life in the Twin Cities. The University
of Minnesota Twin Cities campus has
approximately 52,500 students of which
15% are students of color.
