Germany. <strong>The</strong> University is shaped by the people<br />

who teach, learn and research here, all <strong>of</strong> whom<br />

benefit from a working in a research university<br />

that operates internationally while remaining<br />

conscious <strong>of</strong> its traditions; cooperates with<br />

numerous universities and research establishments<br />

all over the world; and has developed<br />

teaching and research methods that enjoy worldwide<br />

recognition.<br />

Living up <strong>to</strong> its long tradition as a classic<br />

University with a full range <strong>of</strong> courses, Bonn<br />

<strong>of</strong>fers nearly a 100 different first degree programmes.<br />

Students can choose from a wide and<br />

modern range <strong>of</strong> subjects that allow a multiplicity<br />

<strong>of</strong> combinations. <strong>The</strong> university provides<br />

numerous continuing education courses for<br />

mature students, which enjoy great popularity.<br />

Alongside the classic subjects, the University <strong>of</strong><br />

Bonn also developed novel concepts for interdisciplinary<br />

and international study. In addition, it<br />

maintains partnerships with universities in<br />

Europe, America, Asia and Australia, and almost<br />

a sixth <strong>of</strong> the student body is made up <strong>of</strong> international<br />

students.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Graduate Institute <strong>of</strong> International Studies<br />

(HEI)<br />

<strong>The</strong> HEI was created in 1927, as<br />

an institution providing students <strong>of</strong><br />

all nations the means <strong>of</strong> undertaking<br />

and pursuing international<br />

studies, through multi- and transdisciplinary<br />

approaches, developed since its creation.<br />

It was setup alongside the other development,<br />

international and intergovernmental institutions<br />

established in Geneva. For a long time it was one<br />

<strong>of</strong> the only academic institutions in the world <strong>to</strong><br />

deal solely with the study <strong>of</strong> international<br />

relations.<br />

It represents a special interface between the<br />

theory and practice <strong>of</strong> international relations and<br />

responds <strong>to</strong> the growing importance <strong>of</strong> international<br />

relations in the world <strong>to</strong>day. <strong>The</strong><br />

Institute's research activities benefit both students,<br />

the international community in Geneva, as<br />

well as international relations pr<strong>of</strong>essionals from<br />

the diplomatic and private sec<strong>to</strong>rs.<br />
