GUY JUBB is Head <strong>of</strong> Corporate<br />
Governance at Standard Life Investments,<br />
a leading investment manager with 128<br />
billion Euros in assets under management. Guy<br />
is responsible for the management <strong>of</strong> all <strong>of</strong><br />
Standard Life Investments’ corporate governance<br />
activities. He has been involved in developing<br />
best practice approaches <strong>to</strong> corporate governance<br />
since 1993 and has extensive experience <strong>of</strong><br />
European governance issues.<br />
COLIN MAYER is Peter Moores Pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />
<strong>of</strong> Management Studies at the Saïd<br />
Business School and Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> the Oxford<br />
Financial Research Centre. Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Mayer has<br />
written widely on corporate finance, taxation and<br />
governance and on the regulation <strong>of</strong> financial<br />
markets. He has directed the European Science<br />
Foundation Network in Financial Markets and<br />
the Financial Economics Programme <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Centre for Economic Policy Research. In addition<br />
<strong>to</strong> having held visiting fellowships at Stanford,<br />
MIT and Brussels University (ULB), where he<br />
was the first Leo Goldschmidt Visiting Pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />
<strong>of</strong> Corporate Governance, he is a Delegate <strong>of</strong><br />
OUP and Chairman <strong>of</strong> Oxford Economic<br />
Research Associates (OXERA) and serves on the<br />
boards <strong>of</strong> several leading academic journals.<br />
CHRIS PIERCE is the Managing Direc<strong>to</strong>r<br />
<strong>of</strong> Global Governance Services Ltd. His<br />
work involves developing direc<strong>to</strong>rs and<br />
boards in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, the<br />
US, South America and South East Asia. Prior <strong>to</strong><br />
becoming MD, he was the Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong><br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Standards and Pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
Development at the Institute <strong>of</strong> Direc<strong>to</strong>rs (IoD).<br />
He has also held senior management positions in<br />
the Overseas Development Administration,<br />
British Airways and Leeds Business School.<br />
Chris has written extensively on direc<strong>to</strong>r and<br />
board development issues. His key publications<br />
include: <strong>The</strong> Effective Direc<strong>to</strong>r: an essential<br />
guide <strong>to</strong> direc<strong>to</strong>r and board development (Kogan<br />
Page, 2001) and <strong>The</strong> Handbook <strong>of</strong> International<br />
Corporate Governance (IoD, 2004) [co-edited<br />
with Kerrie Waring]. He is currently writing a<br />
Toolkit on Developing, Crafting and Reviewing<br />
Corporate Governance Codes for the Global<br />
Corporate Governance Forum (part <strong>of</strong> the World<br />
Bank) <strong>to</strong> be published in Summer 2005.<br />
DAN PRENTICE is a Pr<strong>of</strong>essor in the<br />
Faculty <strong>of</strong> Law at the University <strong>of</strong><br />
Oxford. He teaches Company Law,<br />
Corporate Insolvency and Corporate Finance,<br />
combining teaching with a mainly advisory practice<br />
at Erskine Chambers. He is a member <strong>of</strong><br />
both the Law Society's Committee on Company<br />
Law and the Law Society's Committee on<br />
Insolvency Law.<br />
ALASTAIR ROSS GOOBEY CBE is currently<br />
Chairman <strong>of</strong> Hermes Focus and<br />
John Wainwright and Co.Ltd. He is also<br />
Deputy Chairman <strong>of</strong> GWR Group plc, a Governor<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Wellcome Trust (the UK's largest medical<br />
research charity), and a Senior Advisor <strong>to</strong> and a<br />
member <strong>of</strong> the European Advisory Board <strong>of</strong><br />
Morgan Stanley. Between January 1993 and<br />
December 2001 he was Chief Executive <strong>of</strong><br />
Hermes Pensions Management Ltd., the executive<br />
arm <strong>of</strong> the BT Pension Scheme, the UK's<br />
largest. His career prior <strong>to</strong> that included periods<br />
as manager <strong>of</strong> the Courtaulds Ltd. pension fund,<br />
and as Chief Investment Strategist at James<br />
Capel. He is Chairman <strong>of</strong> the International<br />
Corporate Governance Network, a member <strong>of</strong> the<br />
European Commission's 15-member Corporate<br />
Governance Forum, an honorary Fellow <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Institute <strong>of</strong> Actuaries, and an honorary chartered<br />
Surveyor.<br />
JONATHAN RICKFORD CBE is a solici<strong>to</strong>r<br />
and consultant on regulation and European<br />
law and policy, Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> the Company<br />
Law Centre at the British Institute <strong>of</strong><br />
International and Comparative Law, and visiting<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essor in Comparative Company Law at the<br />
London School <strong>of</strong> Economics. In 2002 he was a<br />
member <strong>of</strong> the EU High Level Group ("Winter<br />
Group") on Corporate Law, and Visiting<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essor at the University <strong>of</strong> Leiden in the<br />
Netherlands. He was the Project Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Government's independent Review <strong>of</strong> Company<br />
Law from 1998 <strong>to</strong> 2001. Mr Rickford was a legal<br />
adviser <strong>to</strong> the DTI from 1972 <strong>to</strong> 1987 and their<br />
chief legal adviser from 1984 -1987. He was chief<br />
legal adviser, direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> regulation and direc<strong>to</strong>r<br />
<strong>of</strong> corporate strategy with British Telecom plc<br />
between 1987 and 1996. He is a member <strong>of</strong> the<br />
City <strong>of</strong> London Corporation Advisory Panel.<br />
