Direct Technical Control of a Message Switch Network at a Signal Brigade or Higher<br />

113-324-8002<br />

Conditions: As a network management technician assigned to a Signal Brigade S3 (EAC, ECB, or Joint),<br />

you are given an OPORD/SOP, an operating message switch network, and appropriate references. A<br />

change of network status or configuration is required.<br />

Standards: The message switch network was operational IAW the OPORD/SOP.<br />

Performance Steps<br />

1. Analyze quality of service and network performance.<br />

a. Statistic reports.<br />

b. Backlog thresholds.<br />

c. Service messages.<br />

d. Traffic routing.<br />

e. Intercept overflows.<br />

f. Database configurations.<br />

2. Identify, control, and coordinate network troubleshooting.<br />

3. Prioritize restoration/reconfiguration of circuit/trunks.<br />

4. Monitor message switch recovery procedures.<br />

5. Ensure compliance with operational COMSEC procedures.<br />

6. Direct reactivation of circuits.<br />

7. Monitor restoration/reconfiguration of message switch network.<br />

8. Provide management information to the JCCC or higher.<br />

9. Conduct risk assessment.<br />
