<strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>2012</strong><br />

Museum<br />

The Museum is an integral part <strong>of</strong> the researches<br />

in the institute holding type and figured specimens.<br />

Besides, Museum repository is a treasure house <strong>of</strong> fossil<br />

collections made by the scientists. The Museums plays a<br />

pivotal role in popularizing palaeobotanical researches<br />

through participating and organizing exhibitions, <strong>Institute</strong>’s<br />

celebrations like Science Day and also serve academic<br />

need <strong>of</strong> various Universities/Colleges/Schools by gifting<br />

away fossil specimens/slides with in India and overseas.<br />

Museum participated in the Science Expo organized by<br />

the Science City, Regional Science Centre, Lucknow from<br />

February 01-05, <strong>2012</strong>. The displayed material was<br />

appreciated by many eminent higher <strong>of</strong>ficials <strong>of</strong> Uttar<br />

Pradesh Government and thousands <strong>of</strong> college students,<br />

teachers and general public visited BSIP display stall. The<br />

outreach <strong>of</strong> museum activities got widened by such<br />

involvement.<br />

Research material collected by the scientists <strong>of</strong><br />

BSIP during the year from 167 localities <strong>of</strong> the country<br />

under various institutional and sponsored/ collaborative<br />

projects got registered and specimens/slides/compact<br />

discs pertaining to 21 research papers were stored in the<br />

valuable collections <strong>of</strong> Museum. The Working Cell in the<br />

Museum was utilized by Overseas scientists- Dr. Stephen<br />

McLoughlin, Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>Palaeobotany</strong>, Swedish<br />

Natural History Museum, Stockholm, and Mr. Roberto<br />

Innuzzi, Department <strong>of</strong> Palaeontologia and Stratigraphia<br />

<strong>Institute</strong> <strong>of</strong> Geosciences, Rio Grande do sul, Brazil to<br />

study research specimens. Database <strong>of</strong> BSIP Museum<br />

Locality/field details for the last ten years has been<br />

prepared.<br />
