Rules and Regulations
Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada (GGC) Photo Contest (the “Contest”) is conducted by Girl
Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada (GGC) National Office, 50 Merton Street, Toronto, Ontario, M4S
1A3. By entering this Contest, all entrants accept and agree to these Rules and Regulations:
TO ENTER
No purchase necessary. The Contest runs from February 1, 2013 at 12 a.m. EST to November 1, 2013 at
11:59 p.m. EST. Information on how to enter and prizes form part of these official rules (“Official
Rules”). By submitting an entry, each entrant agrees to the Official Rules and warrants that her entry
complies with all requirements set out in the Official Rules.
ELIGIBILITY - WHO MAY ENTER
Contest is open only to Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada (GGC) members, girls and adults.
Minors must include parental consent with their submission(s). Contest is void in the province of
Quebec and where prohibited by law. Contest subject to all applicable provincial, federal, local laws and
regulations. By participating, entrants agree to these official rules and accept decisions of GGC as final in
all matters relating to the contest. By entering, all entrants permit GGC to use the collected information
(first and last name, partial address [i.e. City & Prov.] and photo(s) submitted) from the Contest for
marketing and advertising purposes, including repurposing the entry as online content.
HOW TO ENTER
Each entry consists of an entry form and a single image. Members can submit up to five entries. To
enter, visit girlguides.ca and complete a photo submission form with the required information, including
your name, unit name, iMIS number, address, telephone number, email address, IR1 attestation and
photo caption; and submit along with your photograph in accordance with the instructions that follow.
Each entry must comply with the following requirements (the "Photograph Requirements"):
Photographs must be in digital format. Only entries submitted online or by email will be eligible. No
print or film submissions will be accepted for entry into this Contest. The photograph need not be taken
with a digital camera; scans of photographic prints are acceptable. All digital files must be between 1
and 5 megabytes, must be in JPEG or JPG format, and must be at least 1,600 pixels wide (if a horizontal
image) or 1,600 pixels tall (if a vertical image).
Photographs must have been taken within one year before the date of entry and may not previously
have won an award in the Canadian Guider Photo Contest.
The photograph, in its entirety, must be a single work of original material taken by the Contest entrant.
By entering the Contest, the entrant represents, acknowledges, and warrants that the submitted
photograph is an original work created solely by the entrant, that the photograph does not infringe on
the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any
person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim, or interest in the photograph.
The photograph must not, in the sole and unfettered discretion of GGC, contain obscene, provocative,
defamatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate content.

The caption must be complete and accurate, sufficient to convey the circumstances in which the
photograph was taken.
The entries will be judged separately, in accordance with the Judging Criteria, as defined below. All
entries must be submitted and received by November 1, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Proof of submission is
not proof of receipt. GGC reserves the right to examine the original photograph/source material in order
to confirm compliance with these rules.
JUDGING
Contest consists of three (3) rounds of evaluation. In Round One, each judge in a panel ("Judges") will
select twenty (20) or less entries from among all eligible entries based on the following criteria ("Judging
Criteria"): (1) creativity and aesthetic; (2) photographic quality; (3) originality and authenticity of the
content; (4) relevance to Girl Guides. The entries selected in Round One will proceed to Round Two. In
Round Two, the Judges will collectively select ten finalists based on the Judging Criteria. In Round Three,
the Judges will select a Grand Prize Winner from among the finalists based on the Judging Criteria.
Winners will be chosen on or around mid-November2013, and notified by email. Decisions of the judges
are final and binding.
PRIZES
Everyone who enters
Everyone who submits a photo to the contest has the opportunity to have their photo shared by GGC
through our Flickr collection.
10 finalists will receive:
• Promotion on the Girl Guides of Canada Flikr account
• Photo included in an issue of Canadian Guider
1 Grand prize
In addition to the perks that come with being a finalist, one lucky grand prize winner will receive a brand
new Digital Camera.
5 First Place Choices
In addition to the perks that come with being a finalist, 5 first place choices will receive a $50
Chapters/Indigo Gift Card
5 Second Place Choices
In addition to the perks that come with being a finalist, 5 first place choices will receive a $25
Chapters/Indigo Gift Card

PRIZE DISCLAIMER
All Prizes must be accepted as awarded, without substitutions or transfers, and cannot be converted to
cash. Any additional costs incurred in collecting and using a Prize is the winner’s responsibility.
TO CLAIM PRIZE
Finalists will be notified by e-mail and/or phone. If no response to any such e-mail or telephone inquiry
is made within seven days of the date on which it was first made, the winner will be deemed to
irrevocably forfeit the Prize and a new finalist entry may be selected. All decisions of GGC
representatives are final.
LICENSE
By entering the Contest, all entrants grant an irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide non-exclusive license to
GGC and Authorized Parties, to reproduce, distribute, display and create derivative works of the entries
(along with a name credit) in connection with the Contest and promotion of GGC, in any media now or
hereafter known, including, but not limited to: publication in Canadian Guider magazine or online.
Display or publication of any entry on an Authorized Party’s website does not indicate the entrant will
be selected as a finalist. GGC and Authorized Parties will not be required to pay any additional
consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such use. Additionally, by entering,
each entrant grants to GGC and Authorized Parties the unrestricted right to use all statements made in
connection with the Contest, and pictures or likenesses of Contest entrants, or choose not to do so, at
their sole discretion. Authorized Parties will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek
any additional approval in connection with such use.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
GGC, its representatives and their respective sponsors, employees or contractors are not responsible for
printing or typographical errors in any contest related materials, or for stolen, lost, late, misdirected,
damaged, incomplete, or illegible entries. Finalists are responsible for payment of taxes on prizes and for
any other expenses relating to the use of prizes. GGC reserves the right to cancel or modify any or all of
the contests if fraud or technical failures compromise the integrity of any or all of the contests as
determined by GGC in its sole discretion.
