TEN POINTS TO KEEP IN MIND…<br />

1. By signing an SF 312, “<strong>Classified</strong> <strong>Information</strong> Nondisclosure Agreement,”<br />

you are contractually obligated to the US Government to safeguard<br />

classified information.<br />

2. Access to classified information requires both a security clearance <strong>and</strong> a<br />

“Need-to-Know.” No one is authorized access to classified information<br />

strictly by virtue of their rank, title or position.<br />

3. When not under the direct control of an authorized person, classified<br />

information must be stored in an approved container.<br />

4. Never discuss classified information over an unsecure telephone, in the<br />

presence of uncleared persons, or in public places, to include,<br />

restaurants, buses, trains, airplanes, unsecure office environment, etc.<br />

5. Combinations to containers used for the storage of classified information<br />

are themselves classified at the same level as the information stored<br />

therein <strong>and</strong> must be protected accordingly.<br />

6. <strong>Classified</strong> information is not to be copied without prior approval.<br />

7. When carrying classified information within a building it will be placed in<br />

an unmarked envelope or folder so as not to draw attention to the<br />

content.<br />

8. When carrying classified information outside of a building it must be<br />

marked <strong>and</strong> wrapped accordingly.<br />

9. Never enter classified information into any automated system that has not<br />

been specifically approved for that purpose.<br />
