<strong>EM</strong>G-830 Digital Electronic Computer<br />

The <strong>EM</strong>G-830 digital electronic computer though according to<br />

its technical construction belongs to the category of II. generation<br />

machines, in its logical structure features many Ill. generation<br />

characteristics.<br />

These characteristics facilitate the application of the machine<br />

for data processln1, technical-scientific c~lculations and<br />

process control. Continuous development of the program<br />

library Widens the applicatiOn facilities even after putting tO<br />

operation.<br />

Programming is facilitated by SIMPLE assembler and <strong>EM</strong>G autocode,<br />

ALGOL and FORTRAN compilers are under development.<br />

Organization and fast operation of the computer facilitate<br />

multiprogramming and also real-time program run indispensable<br />

In process control applications.<br />

The program library consists of:<br />

various sub:outines (activation of peripheral equipment)<br />

standard functions<br />

floating point and double word length operations diagnostic test<br />

programs<br />

technical and data processing programs<br />

compilers and Interpretive programs for the above programming<br />

languages.<br />

Application of the computer is greatly helped by the direct contact<br />

at customers' disposal.<br />

courses for programmers and operators on different levels.<br />

The <strong>EM</strong>G-830 us a single address machine. Wordlength is 2~<br />

bits In case of a data processing variation and 21 +3 bits in case<br />

of process control variation. In the latter case the separated 3<br />

bits serve for parity check which ensures increased safety of<br />

operation indispensable in process control applications.<br />

The instruction format ensures direct addressing of 32,768 store<br />

locations in case of data processing and 8,1 92 store locations in<br />

case of a process control variation. In other words, the ferrite<br />

care store can be extended with ~K modules up to 32K capacity<br />

in case of a data processing variation and up to 8K in case of a<br />

process control variation.<br />

For the storage of wired programs the Internal store might be<br />

extended with 256 word permanent store modules. Cycle time<br />

of the operative (f!!rrite core) store is 6 !J.S, average speed of the<br />

machine is 25,000 operations per second.
