30 Years of Tradition
to Honor steve Dean ’67
The weather on September 13 was 80 degrees, not a cloud
in the sky and the perfect day to celebrate the 30th Annual
Steve Dean Golf Classic. Steve Dean was smiling down upon
the 216 golfers who gathered at Argyle Country Club and
Manor Country Club for a scramble format outing. This year,
each golfer received a personalized scorecard and photo
frame with a picture of their foursome included. The golfers
also received Under Armour wind vests with the school seal
embroidered on the front. After the tournament, Outback
Steakhouse generously catered the awards banquet back at
Good Counsel.
With numerous sponsors and individuals in support, the
golf tournament successfully raised nearly $30,000 for the
Steve Dean Scholarship Fund. In the spring of 2013, Good
Counsel will be able to provide two rising seniors with
$5,000 scholarships from the Steve Dean Fund and also
build the scholarship endowment. The fund was created
30 years ago in honor of Steve Dean ’67, who died due to
complications related to cerebral palsy. The two students
are selected based upon their involvement in academic,
social and athletic programs and who, much like Steve,
exemplify a love of Good Counsel.

and it was a great experience for me. It gave me the opportunity to
participate in a great fundraising event and to reunite with many of
my classmates. I was able to see teachers and staff who I have not
seen since graduation. It was a great event that I will continue to
sponsor, support and participate in for many years to come!”
