Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope your week was as productive as ours. Learning, thinking, being actively engaged in
a variety of instructional best practices, enjoying field trips and even getting some extra
play time are just a few of the numerous activities in which your child has been a part. One
of the most interesting presentations I saw this week was in fourth grade. Mr. Messer, a
volunteer, came in to talk to the fourth grade as an extension of their Electricity and
Magnetism unit. He explained how and why magnets work and the relationship between
electricity and magnetism. Mr. Messer brought in several real world items like door bells,
simple motors, and a homemade electromagnet. He even explained how electricity has
changed over time by comparing modern day items like the motherboard in a laptop to their
earlier equivalents. He also shared with the students examples of careers that involve
knowledge of electricity, magnetism, math and science and encouraged the students to be
open to those interests even if they weren't already. Yes, our fourth grade students were
able to get a STEM lesson from a volunteer who was absolutely amazing. A major thank
you is extended to all 4 th grade teachers under the leadership of Ms. Cristin Flaherty.
If you are passionate about your career and would like to share how it is relevant to global
awareness, STEM, cultural differences or if it is technologically geared to the children’s
future, please visit a grade level or a class and share with our students. It always makes
such a huge impression on a child for him/her to be aware of the possibility of different
career choices.
Congratulations to our school!!! At my last principal meeting, our school grades were
shared. One grade was given to us from the Senate and another from the House. The Senate
rated us with a B while the House rated us with an A. There were many components in
deriving these scores but the core component was scores. We are rockin’ it at Leesville
Elementary School!!! WooHoo!!!

LES Staff Appreciation Week – Thank yous have been pouring in!
The PTA forgot last week to share a special “Thank you” with each Room Parent for their
effort in making Staff Appreciation a special week in each classroom! Thank you also to
everyone who made special efforts to include all staff and make everyone feel like an

Oscar-winner last week! Thank yous have come in from LES Staff members – maybe the
MOST positive remarks we’ve ever received! Staff has commented: “PTA Rocks!” “You
made me feel extra-special!” “Very creative week of events!” “I loved it! Thanks!” “Thank
you for the supplies!” “I felt very appreciated!” “The treats were great”
The LES Sock Hop & Silent Auction is TONIGHT! - April 26th 5:30-8:30.
Food, Fun, Dancing and Shopping--there's something for everyone! Choose from
getaways, dining out, family fun, health/beauty, sports, unique experiences, camps and
parties, one of a kind item, beautiful themed class baskets, fun teacher experiences and
MORE!! We will be selling raffle tickets for: 50/50 raffle; Taylor Swift Concert Tickets
and items in the Kid’s Corner (bikes/candy tower and mystery box!). Credit Cards will be
accepted for all auction items. Please bring cash for the photo booth, raffle tickets and food
vendors. See you tonight!!
Sock Hop News – Crazy Sock Contest at 7:00pm in the Multipurpose Room:
The Sock Hop is a fun event going on at the same time as the Silent Auction – KIDS! Wear
your craziest socks and dance the night away with all of your LES friends! A Crazy Sock
competition will be judged at 7:00pm in the Multipurpose Room. Get creative and plan to
compete! There will be 1 st and 2 nd place prizes for each grade level! Parents – children
under 6 must be with an adult at all times. Please supervise your older children as well.
Remember, this is not a "drop off event". Parents must attend the events with their
students. Students may not stay at school waiting for the festivities to begin. They
must go home and return with you. We welcome help in chaperoning the sock hop!
Outdoor Movie Night and PTA Spring General Meeting-
Please join us on Friday, May 3 rd for our last PTA General Meeting of this year (7 pm)
followed by an outdoor movie(starts at 8 pm). “Rio” (animated and rated G) will be
playing on a 21 foot inflatable screen with professional quality sound and movie clarity.
We will be selling drinks, candy and popcorn and Grillworks will have hot dogs and drinks
for purchase. So, gather up your blankets, outdoor chairs, coolers, and bug spray and come
out for night of fun under the stars! The movie will happen – Rain or Shine! Contact Becky
