predict that

readily than
anything
else… which
I will prove
immediately,
by including
Dean’s predictions…
provided soft,
but not verbally
last Friday…
and finally
as an
optimist more
than a pessimist,
I find I
like good
news much
more than
bad… so

New Year Predictions
with all that in mind...
Dean’s Predictions
Kodak will go bankrupt. Barnes &
Noble, America's biggest retailer,
will spin off its e-book, Nook division,
which will survive. The parent
company will not.
There will be an IPad 3 and an
iPhone 5. Rumors will also begin
about an Apple TV.
The biggest event of the year will
be a Facebook IPO, which will
raise $10 billion with a valuation
expected in the neighborhood of
$100 billion. So all the new Facebook
employee millionaires
(1000's) will invest in their own
start ups, lose their money within
a year and be back working at the
mother ship. (800 million users,
500 million users log in daily)
Kickstarter.com will be one of
the success stories of the year
and will be bought by one of the
big four (Google, Apple, Facebook
or Amazon). Since 2009 it
has raised $125 million and successfully
funded 15,000+ projects.
Success rate is 44%. Kick
starter takes 5% of the funds
raised for each project. If a project
doesn't reach it's targeted
funding amount by its own deadline,
no funds are collected.
Social media/chat will start to replace
internal emails at more and
more companies. Cloud computing
and mobile access will become
mainstream for most companies,
which means Microsoft -
will have a tough year. Can they
release Windows 8 Can they
transition to the cloud Can they
successfully get into mobile
There are rumors they are trying
to acquire Nokia’s smart phone
division again. This could well be
a story of too little, too late…
2012 could also be a pivotal year
for private space flight as Virgin
Galactic already has 500 customers
signed up at $200,000 each.
Expect the first test flight into
space this year, with regular
flights in 2013.

Water instead of Champagne
Water, instead of champagne was
presented during a four-day, New
Year trip on behalf of RCBS and
great (multiple) sponsors: Drs Ulrike
and Peter Minderjahn to recipients
of two more Clean Drinking
water systems (CDWS 404 &
407) at Sawan A-nan Witthaya 2
School in Sukhothai and Anuban
Ngao school in Lampang.
Within a few days Waserkaiser
Wolf and Ann drove 1,998 kilometres
(Pattaya-Sawankhaloke-
Lampang - Nan - Pattaya); enjoyed
Karaoke at two club meetings
(RC Sawankhaloke-North &
RC Nan); received blessings for
one CDWS by all eight monks of
the village; presented best wishes
to everyone who would listen during
inaugurations and book presenting
speeches; ate the famous
noodles (kao soi) of Northern
Thailand with Rotary friends of RC
Lampang; forgot about water in
exchange for lots of wine and
champagne on New Year’s Eve
(at the great orchid farm of PP
Narong and Ann Kalaya of RC
Nan); and finally, had a ‘great’,
more than ten-hour hangover
drive home...
Hope to have some RCBScompatriots
to sing and drink with
next time along with our very
warm Rotary friends of RID 3360.
