the expansion bridge before, all of that banging,<br />

clanking, especially at night, that's the old<br />

structure having problems that it is today.<br />

Fortunately the modern structure out there, just by<br />

being a modern structure in terms of the expansion<br />

joints on it, on the roadway deck, it'll be a lot<br />

quieter.<br />

The rough out to out dimension of the new<br />

structure is about 88 feet, I believe. It's going to<br />

be built five-foot off of the existing bridge. It'll<br />

be a five-foot construction clearance, it'll be built,<br />

and it's being built out to the edge of that 300 foot<br />

right of way that exists.<br />

MR. RUDOLPH: So it'll be 80 feet closer,<br />

actually.<br />

MR. BERTOULIS: You could call it 88 plus that<br />

five, so 93.<br />

MR. RUDOLPH: Okay. My second thought is -- and<br />

probably, I'm sure this has been addressed, but the<br />

present bridge has -- for stormwater run-off it just<br />

goes directly into the river. In fact, a year or so<br />

ago when there was a gasoline truck that turned over<br />

near the Newburyport exit, that gasoline was in the<br />

river in probably minutes.<br />
