bridge, kind of the extension of the islands in the<br />

river like the adjacent Deer Island which runs up in<br />

this area.<br />

In terms of the permitting, there is the Army<br />

Corp. Channel, the Federal Navigation Channel which<br />

comes up, aligns with the Hines <strong>Bridge</strong>. We'll be<br />

placing navigation lights on the -- either side of the<br />

bridge structures. Naturally the Federal Channel ends<br />

up in this area. In addition, it was built -- it was<br />

created and mapped and marked later but it wasn't<br />

there originally when the bridge was built in the<br />

fifties but the local community created a channel to<br />

the south for boaters who didn't want to have to deal<br />

with the Hines <strong>Bridge</strong> who couldn't get under the Chain<br />

<strong>Bridge</strong>. This became the preferred route for most the<br />

boating activities, the Steamboat Channel. That'll<br />

also now receive navigation lighting on that<br />

structure. There isn't any right now but the new<br />

structure will have navigation marking that channel<br />

very clearly.<br />

In the documents which are going forward with the<br />

Coast Guard, we're showing a construction area for the<br />

contractors to utilize between the channels as well as<br />

on the western side as well as barge lay down storage<br />
